Truncating posts on homepage

I want to add a ‘read more’ tag to my posts but this option is not available in my menu bar. How do I do it? I am using the basic, free version of WordPress.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there,

This link should provide more info and some steps on how to truncate your blog entries:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/more-tag/

    I hope this helps :-)

Thank you sam0331, I already found that. The problem is I don’t have the “Insert more tag” option in my editing menu. Is that because I am on the free version of WordPress? Do I have to upgrade to get that function? I don’t want to pay for an upgrade unless I am sure I am getting that feature. Many thanks.

Hi again – no worries, I found it! Not at all the same place as in the link you provided, but nevertheless, I finally found it and it worked. Many thanks!

Glad you were able to find it. May I ask where it was since its not in the same place as the link states?

    Thanks

Hi there – at first I tried to add the “more” button in the same box as text, so it didn’t show up as an option in the edit menu. I then decided to create a new box, and still it was not in the edit menu – a window comes up with frequently used box options (text, image, etc, but no “more” option). However, there was a search facility, so I typed in “More” and the option appeared. I read somewhere that it doesn’t automatically show as an option until you have used it once. It is definitely very buried in the admin, but now I have found it and used it, it should always show for me. (Fingers crossed). Hooray!
