'Try now CSS' is missing for free plan users
-
Under free plan, when using customiser, I cannot find ‘Try now Custom Design’ which includes trialing CSS editor. I understand that this is for premium and business plan users but why the trial use has disappeared?
-
It is unfortunate that this feature was suddenly removed instead of placed elsewhere or displayed differently, effectively punishing users who do want to use it because some other users didn’t understand it.
I don’t know about hvmoghe but the only thing I am trying to achieve is to test out different CSS to see if I want to get the Premium Plan. Would you please put in a request to place or enable the “try CSS” feature somewhere else then? Alternatively, how else do you recommend testing out different CSS to see if the upgraded plan is worth it? Thanks!

Hi @pcvrgamer, I’d be happy to pass along the feedback. Did you use this feature pretty regularly until now?
You can use your browser’s “inspect element” tool to test CSS if you’d like.

Yes, primarily while I am in the design phase, and for another site too. So are there any other features that are going to be removed from free or paid accounts? How would one go about getting notified that features are going to be removed from WordPress.com? This naturally has me concerned because if I do get paid accounts I really don’t want to be surprised by having useful features suddenly made unavailable. I was unable to locate any information about this removal on WordPress.com and I strongly value communication; although maybe I missed it or simply couldn’t find it. Thanks for passing the feedback along.

supernovia, I used to run on Fontfolio theme, and on free plan, where I’m not able to change colour schemes other than background colour via customise, I used the trick of using ‘try now custom design’, select layout colour, save and publish and then exit the trial panel. It always worked and the colour change was perpetually effective. It was important to have this colour that matches the title of my website, i.e. ‘Azure’.

I’m not sure if there is a way to activate this colour scheme now that I no longer have access to ‘try now custom design’ feature and I’m not inclined to go for premium or business plan. Any advice or is it possible for staff to do it for me on my website?
-
Staff, would you care to enable ‘try and customise’ feature for me – just for me as one user?
-
Hi @hvmoghe, we’ve removed the “Try and Customize” feature; too many users found it confusing. Let me know what you’re hoping to achieve though and we’ll help how we can.
Just informing you that this support doc needs to be edited.
It says this –I’m not sure if the Custom Design is for me. Can I try before I buy?
Yes! If you haven’t purchased the WordPress.com Premium or WordPress.com Business upgrade yet, go to My Sites → Customize, click the Custom Design menu link, and then click the Try Now button. The CSS panel has an editor where you can paste CSS code and preview the changes in the live preview area on the left. The CSS changes you try before purchasing the upgrade will only be visible to you, so you can test and edit to your heart’s content.

I’ve set up my website and I request that you enable try and customise feature for me. If you are not doing it, then can you please activate the colour scheme for links/header bars/title to blue, i.e. WEB RGB: 44749E?
-
Hi @adventurer21, we aren’t able to enable it just for you, or we certainly would be inclined to do so. Sorry! But you can buy a Premium plan. If you don’t use your domain credit, you have up to 30 days for a full refund.
If you do use the domain credit, you have two days; after which you’ll get a refund for all but the domain. I hope that helps.

Just an FYI but the “Live CSS Editor” Chrome plugin looks like it may provide similar functionality to what used to be available on WordPress.com.
-
@pcvrgamer that likely would work, or Stylish, or Inspect Element… all of these would need to be copied into the site’s CSS section (available on plans that support it), but those are great ways to preview changes.
