Try to fix this one! Messed up all blog address names

  • Unknown's avatar

I screwed up big time. Today I made a second blog (oh happy day) and then I decided to change the address and title of it but I changed the address of my first blog by accident (now it’s a crappy day). I did not delete my original page. So now I have three pages, the original one without the original content, my new one (without the name I want) and a third one (with my original blog content with the name I want for my new page). How do I fix this mess? Note I am not a programmer and use wordpress actions “for dummies”.

Original blog elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com -> now blank
New blog elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com -> wanted to change it arosiegarden.wordpress.com but it is still the same elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com

    Now have elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com content as -> arosiegarden.wordpress.com

Is there an undo button? Ugh … what do I do to get everything back to their rightful place in the wordpress world.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Anyone out there have any ideas? I would like to fix this as soon as I can.

Thanks @timethief. I am already subscribed. Don’t you wish life had undo buttons when you make stupid mistakes without realizing it? Good luck with you business multitasking and thanks again.

I have one warning to issue. Do not delete any blog URLs. Deletion of any blog URL is permanent and irreversible.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks, yes I read all that about never delete and I didn’t. I thought I was doing everything correctly which I was, just doing it for the wrong blog.

    Hi @rosietta,

Happy to help you get this fixed up. Just to recap, you have the following:

    elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com (empty)

    elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com

    arosiegarden.wordpress.com (renamed from elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com)

The goal is to have the content currently on arosiegarden.wordpress.com moved to elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com and then the content currently on elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com moved to arosiegarden.wordpress.com. Is that correct? If not, could you clarify one more time so I can make sure we’re on the same page?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes exactly. I want the house reno. content moved back to elmcenturydiy and the new content moved to the new blog name arosiegarden

    YOU are correct.

  • Unknown's avatar

Perfect – Thanks for clarifying! To move this content around, we’ll need to do some exporting/importing.

First, let’s get the content currently on arosiegarden.wordpress.com moved to elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com.

    1. Export the content from arosiegarden.wordpress.com as explained here:

    Export Your Website’s Content

    2. Import it into elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com as explained here:

    Import a Website

Once we’re sure all of the content has been copied over, respond back here. I can empty arosiegarden.wordpress.com for you so we can start the process of moving the content at elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com to that site.

  • Unknown's avatar

For some reason I didn’t see the email come up that you responded. I’ll start the export / import now.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, the post and pages content is transferred.

I added back the theme and was then able to see the pages again with the proper format. I added back the header and the widgets I was using previously.

So everything is the same, except for the following.

    Problems:
The comments only show up for 2015, not 2014.
    The views are gone.
    The followers are gone.
    All likes are gone.

  • Unknown's avatar

The comments only show up for 2015, not 2014.

It looks like there are 39 comments shown here:

    https://elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php

That seems to match the total here:

    https://arosiegarden.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php

Additionally, when I scroll down to the bottom of the page, I’m able to see comments from 2014. Can you double-check on your side?

    The views are gone.

I can fix that for you. Can you just confirm that you would like me to move all of the stats from arosiegarden.wordpress.com to elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com?

    The followers are gone.

Similar to above, I can fix this up. Can you reply to confirm?

    All likes are gone.

I’m afraid these cannot be moved over.

  • Unknown's avatar

The comments are there. I was looking at the stats, which only show half the comments. So they are there, they just don’t show up as there in total comments on stats.

I’d love for you to move the stats. Thank you so much for all your help.

Well, for such a screw up that seemed like a simple thing, loosing likes is the least of my worries.

    THANK YOU

    Hi there!

Jeremey is off for the weekend so thought I’d pop in to help finish this up. :)

I’ve moved the subscribers and stats from arosiegarden.wordpress.com to elmcenturyhousediy.wordpress.com. You can view the updated stats here:

  • Unknown's avatar

Great. Thanks. I guess at this point arosiegarden.wordpress.com would need to be cleared as Jeremy said so I could move the right site (A Rosie Garden – https://elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com) over to it?

Then I’m guessing I do the same import, export?

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah, yes! Sorry I missed that earlier.

I emptied out arosiegarden.wordpress.com for you. Just use the same export and import process to move the correct content in. :)

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, I have successfully imported the elmcenturyhousegarden to arosiegarden.

  • Unknown's avatar

Is it possible then to move my followers from elmcenturyhousegarden to arosiegarden … then I can change my old blog to private and not have duplicates everywhere?

    Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve moved the followers from elmcenturyhousegarden.wordpress.com to arosiegarden.wordpress.com

Would you like the site’s stats transferred as well?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sure! Thank you ever so much for fixing up my Royal mistake.
