Trying out WordPress, very overwhelmed

  I am trying to build a small web site for a social club, and want to be able to create and schedule reminder emails to go out to the members to inform them of the next meeting. I’m trying the free version of WordPress to see if this is a viable solution for us. I cannot seem to figure out how to install additional plugins. Is this something that’s only available in the premium version?

  WordPress.com has dozens of plugins built in, but you can’t add third-party ones; that can only be done on a self-hosted site, where you’re running the software yourself.
