Trying to add a box.net widget
-
Good afternoon, folks;
I’m new here to WordPress and it’s a couple of days I’m working on setting up my blog. I’m trying to do something and I’m not sure if I’m going about this correctly. I’m trying to put the following widget onto a page on my blog. Here is the code:<embed src=’http://www.box.net/static/flash/widget_player.swf’ type=’application/x-shockwave-flash’ FlashVars=’subString=folderId=fy02uf7roa,color=CE6700,title=My shared files’ scale=’noscale’ wmode=’transparent’ width=’289′ height=’300′></embed>
How would I go about putting this in? I have an online file storage account on http://www.box.net and they have a widget I can put anywhere that allows me to browse my files without having to be in that site. Problem is I don’t know where or how to put this code in.
Help!
Thanks

Afraid not. Embeds are still stripped out due to security concerns. I doubt that will change unless staff creates a box.net widget of some sort.

There’s nothing “to be worked out” here. If it’s javascript or an iframe or both, embed, flash, shockwave, etc it’s a no go because it’s a security risk. Please read this http://faq.wordpress.com/tag/javascript/ and this http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/can-i-add-flash-video-embed-other-media/

They do have widgets that work just fine on WP.com. You can take a look at the ones that I have in my right side bar. I used this code for the top one:
<img src=”http://www.box.net/img/public_box_button.gif” border=”0″>

This really sucks big time. I am sick of the funny quirks of Blogger and I was ready to move my entire blog over to WordPress, but because of “security reasons” I am restricted to only using 10 year old website technology? Wooo, so you let me post a hyperlink or an image. Big deal. I want to be able to paste in any flash widget I want.

Then you want to find some webspace and install a blog using software from WordPress.org. The free hosting here comes with restrictions. Those restrictions are because of the shared blogging platform: if they weren’t there anyone could install serious security risks on their blog and expose ALL of us to the vulnerability.

It looks like a new “Box.Net file sharing widget” was added for use in our sidebar!
Very cool.
Thanks WP.com!

I’ve seen a pattern develop over the last year. Someone posts to the forum requesting some feature that has not previously been available due to security restrictions. A forum volunteer responds as raincoaster has done and VOILA! the new feature is introduced making the forum volunteer shake their head in wonderment as no “official” announcement has been made. Thereafter the announcement is made.

Maybe I have a negative mojo? Awesome.
Would someone please suggest that WordPress immediately remove the currently serving elected heads of Canada, the US, and the UK? Then I can say “no, we don’t do that at WordPress” and…

Trying to add a box.net widget in my blog but don’t seems to work, what can be a possible reason?

Can you be more specific about “don’t seems to work”? And what is the URL of the blog you’re trying to add it to?

It works fine. You should go to box.net first to set up your account and copy the HTML code into your box.net widget ->dashboard->presentation->sidebar then drag the widget where you want it to appear.
