Trying to add BlogRush to my widgets…
-
Hi. I’m trying to add a widget from BlogRush.com to my wordpress blog. It seems to work on my dot com with a wp theme – CatherineBlogs.com – But when I try to use on any of my original wordpress blogs it’s not working. Any advice? Thanks for your help.

Hi there,
Would you please provide a link to the BlogRush widget?
Edit: I just located it and read the information.
BlogRush is a viral marketing widget deigned to drive traffic to affiliated 3rd party sites and that’s not allowed on wordpress.com blogs.

This is the direct link they give me to BlogRush —
http://www.blogrush.com/r17914078
This is the widget for catherinemaire.wordpress.com
<script type=”text/javascript”><!–
blogrush_feed = “46359799”;
//–></script>
<script type=”text/javascript”
src=”http://widget.blogrush.com/show.js”>
</script>Is this the information you need?
If you go to CatherineBlogs.com you can see what it is suppose to look like.
Thanks for your help.

It’s also javascript which is not allowed on wordpress.com blogs.
The code is stripped out by our programming on this multi-user blogging platform to preserve security. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/javascript-can-i-use-that-on-my-blog/I’m sorry but the BlogRush widget is a “no go” for wordpress.com blogs.

O.k. thanks. I’m not sure why it says on their site it will work with WP. But no biggie. Thanks for your help.

It’s my experience that every time you see WP or wordpress on the web at these third party sites they are referring to wordpress.org blogs and, it’s only when you see wp.com or wordpress.com stated that the claim will be true for our blogs here. That’s why you can use it on your wp install but not here.

@catherine
It will work on self-hosted wordpress blogs that run on the software downloaded from wordpress.org, but not on this multi-user version. -

There are no plans to include BlogRush at this time. BlogRush is a viral marketing widget designed to drive traffic to affiliated 3rd party sites and that’s not allowed on wordpress.com blogs.
See: section 2, 5th bullet in the Terms of Service you agreed to to get a blog here http://wordpress.com/tos/
see also: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=13157
and http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/12/08/adsense/… if the primary purpose of the blog is to drive traffic to affiliate programs that’s not allowed. If you’re not sure, contact support.
If you wish to lobby staff to do reverse the policy then during support hours you can use the “Support” link on the top right hand corner of any admin side blog page to state your reasons for requesting it in your submission.

Here’s an information update from Blogrush’s FAQs http://www.squidoo.com/blogrush/#module3763112
Why can’t I get the widget to display in my blog at WordPress.com?
Currently, it can’t be done in blogs hosted in wordpress.com. It has to do with some restrictions WordPress.com put in place on 3rd-party javascript. The javascript provided by BlogRush is not executed even if you’ve added it successfully to your WordPress.com blog template or sidebar widget.See also: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=BlogRush

I also tried to include blogrush code in my blog but found nothing. Thank god! i visited this forum and knowing that WordPress does not allow blugrush I am not going with it any more. If somebody know some another methods of generating traffic which WP permits, please suggest me.

There are at least 20 threads on the subject, so do a search for “hits” or “traffic” or related posts and you’ll find a ton of information. Be aware that self-generated actions will outperform SEO techniques over the long run (and yes, I’m aware there’s an industry out there who will disagree with me…an industry that doesn’t google or Technorati as high as I do). Trust me on that. The single best way to get hits and links is to give them to other people.

@alextaldren
The best thing about wordpress is the fact there are two options. I have blogs on this multiuser blogging platform at wordpress.com and I have a wordpress.org install as well.Hosting is very inexpensive so if you prefer to more liberty you can spend a couple of bucks a month or skip one fancy coffee a month and have that liberty with a wordpress.org template. (Example: My hosting at A Small Orange is only $25 per year).

If hosting yourself is not an option for you- maybe you should consider moving to Blogger. they don’t have these kinds of restrictions.
-
Agreed. If you require the use of javascript like the BlogRush widget does you would be better off looking into other hosting options.

See Mark’s post for clarification regarding BlogRush and other javascript widgets https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=18081

Man, this forum should be called, “Why you should just host your own blog.”
LOL. that’s definitely the first name of these forums. the second one is, “sorry, wrong forums, you ought to be at the wordpress.org/support”
I’ll admit, would be more surprised were it called, “Why you should just host your blog on Blogger”, though.
