Trying to add contact form

  • Unknown's avatar

I am setting up my blog and I wanted to edit the ‘contact us’ page. I changed the default text, but left the contact form code in place. However, the contact form is not displaying. It is just displaying the code as text. I looked at the FAQ and it says that there should be an option to ‘add contact form’ by the ‘add media’ option, but I don’t see that in my editor.

Here is the code I am using and it is in the Visual editor:
    [contact-form]
    [contact-field label='Name' type='name' required='true' /]
    [contact-field label='Email' type='email' placeholder='Your Email Address' required='true' /]
    [contact-field label='Website' type='url' /]
    [contact-field label='Comment' type='textarea' required='true' /]
    [/contact-form]

The page in question can be viewed at wellroundedmom.com/contact-us

    Any help?

  • Hi @roundmom, I can’t access the page you listed.

Can you try inserting the contact form in the HTML mode, or modifying it there?

    http://wellroundedmom.com/index.php/contact-us/

Hopefully that will help you access the page…

Anyway, I tried putting that code in both versions of the editor, and I still get the code showing and not the contact form.

  • @roundmom Make sure Jepack is enabled, and that the contact form module is on. Also if you are using a different contact form plugin, too, Jetpack’s contact form module turns off, so check your plugins for that.

*sigh* That’s a whole different support question.

I keep trying to enable Jetpack, but after I select the free edition, it goes back to my blog saying I need to connect… After I just went through connecting it…

  • @roundmom can you try connecting once more? Start with a new browser window. Connect Jetpack and authorize it right away. Don’t click back.

If that still does not work, can you get in touch with Jetpack support at
    https://jetpack.com/contact-support/ ?

I just saw the little grey notice that says that my installation is disabled for JetPack, and when I followed that link, I saw this entry:

In order to manage plugins on your Jetpack-connected site from WordPress.com, your site needs to be configured properly. Your site cannot be under version control, and you must be able to install plugins and update them without entering a FTP username and password.

The following constants also need to be set to false or not defined: DISALLOW_FILE_MODS and AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED. And any plugin that intentionally disables autoupdates must not be active.

I have no idea how to change or modify those settings. I am hosted by a third party hosting site, and all of the building I did was through WordPress. Is this something that would be in one of the style sheets?

And I have reached out to Jetpack support… and they haven’t gotten back to me yet.

  • @roundmom, okay. Give Jetpack support a little more time.

I just saw the little grey notice that says that my installation is disabled for JetPack…

Are you looking in wellroundedmom.com/wp-admin ?

I saw the little grey notice when looking at my plugins through wordpress.com, under the “My Site” tab. Previously, I had been looking at the /wp-admin dashboard.

I am looking to see if I can find anything in the style sheets that fits those two constants.

It appears that I had a conflict between my theme and the plug-in for Jetpack. That theme may have also caused the problem with the contact form. I went back to twenty sixteen and things seem to be working better. But now I need to find a more appealing theme that won’t mess with my plugins.

  • That makes sense. :) Glad you’ve got it worked out!
