Trying to build a website and a blog is very daunting indeed. I am not looking for anything grand. I just want a simple website where I can showcase my book writing as I am an author and to showcase my photography as I am an amateur photographer. Ca someone help me please? Many thanks.

Use the free theme Astra, a lightweight WordPress multipurpose theme. This is an incredible free WordPress theme that allows you to create any site you want. This is a great option for professional photographers and designers.

Hi there, all the themes available on WordPress.com websites can be found in our Theme Showcase. There’s a large selection of free and paid themes available and you can use the filters there to narrow down the selection. Here’s more on themes https://wordpress.com/support/themes/
The ability to install third party themes, such as Astra, or Partner themes would require you to upgrade your WordPress.com website to the Creator plan.
