Trying to cancel subscription.

  • Unknown's avatar

I received an email today as below.
flatletters.com is about to be automatically renewed on July 10, 2016.
You will be charged £22.00 for this renewal in 60 days, on July 10, 2016.
You don’t have to do anything — this is just a reminder.
If you don’t want to renew, you can cancel this subscription at Me > Manage Purchases in your WordPress.com account.

I do not wish to renew. I followed the link, but can find no option to cancel in ‘Manage Purchases’.
How do I cancel this subscription?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Please read this support doc https://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-purchases/#auto-renew

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel any upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and to disable auto-renew.

Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

    Timethief-
AFAIK, I was logged in as admin, but I found no links regarding cancellation of auto renew and I spent about an hour looking.
The only option available under “Purchases” was “Upgrade”, although another page said to go to “Purchases” to canbcel subscriptions.
I will continue to check this thread for staff response.
    Thank you for your response.

  • @admacraein the upgrade is not associated with this account. Can you log out, then log in as the user who bought the upgrade? You could also log in using the email address that gets the notices.

    @supernovia: Thanks for replying.

“the upgrade is not associated with this account.”

Sorry, I don’t understand. What upgrade do you mean?
Treat me as an absolute newbie here. I set up an account ten months ago because a friend asked me to look after his website for a while and I wanted to learn WP basics without risking his stuff. In the event, the plan changed and after a day or two, I never looked at it again, in fact forgot it existed. Then the reminder arrived saying I’ll be billed £22 in July. Obviously, I don’t want that to happen as I don’t use the site and have actually deleted it.

I always log in using the email address. I didn’t know there was any other way to log in.

So far as I know, I only ever had one WP account, but what you say suggests there are two separate accounts with different logons. Is that correct?

I just want to ensure that I am not recurrently charged for something I don’t use . That seemed to mean finding an “unsubscribe” link, which I was unable to do.
I have now completely deleted the website, but I wonder if that is enough to ensure no “auto renewal” charge? If there is a second account, how do I access it?

  • The upgrade is the custom domain: flatletters.com . It’s registered under a different email address and username. I can see it’s still active, too, not deleted.

Do you only have one email address?

There is only one email address I normally use.

I just tried to log in to https://flatletters.com , ehich says I’m already logged in.
It offers the option to access the site by having WP send my name to the owner. This has resulted in an email arriving at my normal hotmail account, as follows:-
    Howdy,

The WordPress.com user admin (username ‘admacraein’) requested access to view your private site at https://flatletters.com/

Want to give them access to view this site? Click on this link: https://flatletters.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php?action=add_user&user_login=admacraein

If you don’t want this person to be able to view https://flatletters.com/, simply ignore this email, and they will not receive access to your private site.

To see a list of users who have access to https://flatletters.com/, visit https://flatletters.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

    Cheers,

    The WordPress.com Team

None of the links work though. It seems I used my standard email address , as that’s what it replied to , but I must log out (of here) before I can log in as admin. I’ll try that now, with a few likely admin passwords. Watch this space…

Ah! Finally cracked it. There was no second email address, but I had used a different username and password, of which I had appended only a cryptic note to my original reminder memo on the offline PC. I didn’t realise (or rather forgot) that the upgraded account was quite separate from the original free version.
This will teach me to document properly!

Many thanks for your help. You jogged me in exactly the right direction.

ps- Yes, there WAS TOO another email address! Gah!What an idiot.
    Cheers.

  • No worries, @gravylens . I’m glad you’ve sorted it out. Cheers!
