Trying to change blog name
-
Hi,
I have a question about changing a blog’s name. I’m a blogging novice so my apologies if this simply shows a complete lack of knowledge.
I want to change my blog’s name from Diplomatic Wife. From what I’ve read I can simply go to the general settings and change the blog name, but presumably the domain name will remain as diplomaticwife.com.
So, I assume I therefore need to change the domain name? I’ve checked the WordPress instructions, which tell me to go to ‘My blogs’, hover over the blog name I want to change, and hey presto, it should show an option whereby I can change the name. (After doing so, I assume I then need to go for the traffic redirect option so I don’t lose any readers.)
The problem with this is that when I go into the ‘My blogs’ page, it doesn’t look the same as the WordPress instruction page. When I hover over my blog name, nothing happens.
So, are my assumptions above correct, and if so, how do I change my domain name?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks very much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
I’m also new on WordPress and also wondering why the name I see when viewing my post is still my username. In my profile I did fill in a blogname that should be publicly visible but nothing happened… So I too would appreciate help!
Thanks! -
@diplomaticwife
Let’s start with this. You have a domain. The top level domain here is wordpress.com. All free hosted WordPress.com blogs are on .wordpress.com sub-domains. Those who have purchased a domain mapping upgrade for their blogs from WordPress.com have their own domain names ie. blog addresses ie URLs but are still being free hosted by WordPress.com.We can change the title of our blog (not the blog address ie. URL) and/or the optional tagline at any time on this page > Settings > General
Changing the blog title and/or optional tagline does not change the blog address ie URL and it does not change your username.
From what I’ve read I can simply go to the general settings and change the blog name, but presumably the domain name will remain as diplomaticwife.com.
That’s correct.

Usernames often are the same as blog names ie. blog addresses ie URLs are. In your case your username is “makingitsupersimple” and your blog URL is http://makingitsupersimple.wordpress.com
This is the page > Settings > General where we can change the blog title and/or optional tagline. Changing it does not change the blog address ie. URL, and it does not change the username either.
If you wish to have a different “display” name or nickname (the name that is seen on your posts and comments) you can do that by following these instructions > http://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/#change-display-name-nickname
Frankly we Volunteers have seen far too many unhappy beginner bloggers who did not comprehend what they were doing and what the ramifications of doing it would be. They failed to have an understanding of what they were doing despite the well documented instructions they used. They changed blog URLs and created broken links 404 (page not found) error messages to content search engines had already indexed. They changed usernames and created huge mess that Staff had to sort. In some cases they actually deleted blogs they did want to keep and lost usernames they wanted to retain. That’s why I’m not posting links to those entries.

Okay, I truly am a beginner wondering if I know what I’m doing and not used to the jargon yet… I followed the three steps in the link about changing my display name, checked, rechecked, double-checked… before I posted my question above…
I thank you, timethief, for your time but I don’t feel helped, I’m sorry.
Why do I still read ‘makingitsupersimple’ above my post when I view it instead of ‘Making It Super Simple’ after accessing my user profile, changing the value next to ‘Display name publicly as’ under ‘Basic details’ and clicking ‘Update profile’?
Thanx! -
@makingitsupersimple
This is your blog’s address or URL: http://makingitsupersimple.wordpress.com/
This is your blog’s title: makingitsupersimple
If you want to change your blog’s title from “makingitsupersimple” to “making it super simple” then you do that here > Dashboard > Settings > General
General Settings

“save changes”But when I go back to the dashboard. At the top of my page, it now says my change, ThePurpleKattery. But my blog title has not changed.
It still says “KatiesFurryBay” next to the blog listing. -

http://thepurplekattery.wordpress.com
http://thepurplekatterystudio.wordpress.comBoth blogs that I have made now have the blog title of ThePurpleKattery next to their listings.
Earlier I got ThePurpleKattery to show “The Purple Kattery” as the blog title, but thepurplekatterystudio still said KatiezFurryBay as the blog title. They are both showing The Purple Kattery now. Thx timethief!
Just must take a while for the server to update changes.
@timethief
The username?? Katiesfurrybay was a blog on Blogspot.
But I have deleted that blog.ThePurpleKattery is connected to Katiezfurrymewz.blogspot.
and to my Bonanza.com booth and to my ebay and etsy accounts.
You can also find me at katreneekittel.netThanks for writing back!

There is no point having two different blogs with the same content. Search engines view that as spamming, and will severely downgrade both sites. If you only want to deal with one, set the less popular one to Private.

I don’t want two blogs with the same content. Just wanted to use point both urls to the same site….

When I change the title of my blog, it changes on every page except for the home page.
How can I change it on the home page????
(very very strange)
