Trying to change my email

    I am trying to change the email address in my profile but I keep getting a response that that email is already in use. I think I someone input that email address somewhere and now I can’t figure out where. I would like to delete whatever I did wrong so that I can use that email address for my profile.

    Lost passwords are annoying. We can get the help of staff soon, although I would walk through the page on passwords found here:

    Change or Reset Your Password

    Particularly, try a password reset for your current email and see what you get in your inbox. It may be a long-lost account that you can merge with the one you’re using right now. If so, use this guide:

    If none of that works, come back and add “modlook” to the tags on the right side of the page. That will summon a Happiness Engineer to assist you.

    When I said “try a password reset for your current email” above, I mean specifically to send a password reset to the email that you’re trying to change this account to. That is, the final email you want to be using. Since you have access to that email, the password reset for this long-lost account should go through.

    Thank you so much, it worked! I had accidentally created a new profile so I was able to swap out the emails. I would like to delete this profile now as I don’t like having a second profile floating around but I can’t figure out how to do it. Any more ideas?

    I’m so happy that worked!

    For the next step, you can’t delete a user account, but you can essentially take out your personal information and let it go. Here are the steps from https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/:

    If you wish to leave WordPress.com, you can easily empty and delete your site. Once this is done remove all personal information from your Account Settings and change your password to a random string. This will leave your account inactive and prevent you from gaining access to it in the future.
