Trying to comment on other blogs, doesn’t know I’m logged in
-
I have a WP.com website. And I pay for a premium account. When I try to comment on certain blogs, I’m getting a messing that says
Are you Jilanne Hoffmann?
You are being asked to login because
(email visible only to moderators and staff) is used by an account you are not
logged into now.I am logged in. What’s the problem. One of the sites I’m trying to comment on is: https://patricianozell.com/2023/09/22/ppbf-in-the-night-garden/
It allows me to “like” the post, and it shows my avatar. But it doesn’t know it’s me when I want to comment. What’s the problem? I’ve had this happen sporadically with other sites, too.
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
I understand it can be a little frustrating when things don’t work as expected, especially when you’re keen on participating in engaging discussions. I couldn’t spot any issues in particular with your account. I think the issue you’re experiencing may very likely relate to your web browser.
Browsers use something called cookies to remember specific information, such as confirming that you’re logged in before posting a comment on a WordPress.com blog. Your issue occurring only sporadically could be a hint that an extension installed on your browser, or software that clears cookies may be causing these inconsistencies. Do you have any such software or extensions on your browser/computer?
As a first step, I’d suggest trying a different browser to post a comment on these blogs. I’m not suggesting you switch to a different browser completely, but try a different browser just for a few days and see if the issue with commenting occurs there.
You can also try clearing your browser cache to see if that helps. Here’s how to clear your browser cache: https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache
If it doesn’t, I suggest trying a different browser for a few days to see how it goes.
Let us know what happens. Thanks!

Well, I tried another browser, which does work. But the strange thing is, if the other blogger responds on their blog to my comment that was posted from the other browser, I CAN comment through Jetpack the way I respond to comments normally. It has happened on a couple of blogs now. And I can comment normally on other WP blogs where I don’t have any of this problem. So I’ve got to think it’s a Jetpack issue.

Hi there,
Well, I tried another browser, which does work.
What about your main browser? Did you clear your cache and cookies to see if that helps? Usually when an issue like this occurs, it can be traced to an expired (or broken) login auth cookie stored on your local web browser.
This is why it can often work on a different browser, because it will usually grab a fresh login cookie when you sign in to your account. This is also why it does not sound like a Jetpack issue; If that were the case it would not work in any browser.
It looks like you are using Google Chrome as your browser, so with this in mind I would like you to try the following:
- clear your cache and cookies based on the steps google recommends here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/32050
- Also make sure you are not blocking any “3rd party cookies” as explained in that guide as well.
Does this allow you to make comments on your preferred browser? Thanks for the additional info!

Closing this thread since it went onto another topic which we ended up moving to another thread, but I’m updating to confirm clearing cache and redoing the WordPress.com cookie did resolve the issue here. Cheers!
