Trying to connect ritualfields.com
-
Hello, I’m trying to install Jetpack on https://ritualfields.com (a self-hosted site), but I repeatedly get an error message that says ‘An error occurred. Please try again.’
I *think* it’s because there already a ritualfields.com associated with my profile—I’m not sure how this was created, and it seems to be empty, but I get this error when I try to delete it: ‘User cannot delete jetpack site via API.’
Can you help me figure out the next steps for sorting this out?
Thanks!

Hi there,
Our system shows that site is already connected to your account via Jetpack, but the connection is broken:
https://jptools.wordpress.com/debug/?url=https://ritualfields.com/
This is because XML-RPC appears to be disabled for your site: If I try to visit https://ritualfields.com/xmlrpc.php it gives a 404 error page.
Please enable that service on your server/contact your hosting provider and ask them to enable it. Jetpack uses that to communicate with your site, so it won’t connect unless XML-RPC is enabled. You can find more info here:
Once that’s enabled, try disconnecting and reconnecting from within your site’s WP-Admin area, and failing that, completely delete and reinstall Jetpack, before trying to reconnect again.
Let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much for the quick and detailed reply! And for pointing me in the direction of the xmlprc file. This helped me sort it out.
(I think there was some .htaccess weirdness because the actual WP install is at ritualfields.com/site—and https://ritualfields.com/site/xmlrpc.php works. I’ve used this arrangement for a number of other sites without an issue w/r/t Jetpack. But I tried resetting the site address to ritualfields.com/site then flipping it back to ritualfields.com, and I *think* it’s working correctly now.)
Thanks again!

Hi there!
I ran the Jetpack debug tool and I’m still seeing issues with connecting to your site. See here: https://jptools.wordpress.com/debug/?url=https://ritualfields.com/
Do you no longer get the error message that you originally reported?
I’m also getting a 404 error on both https://ritualfields.com/site/xmlrpc.php and https://ritualfields.com/xmlrpc.php – if you’re still getting an error message, you may want to post on the Jetpack support forum at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack/ for help with the unique setup of your site (where the site address is ritualfields.com/site but you’re using ritualfields.com instead).

Thanks for looking into this! Strange about that error message in the debug tool: I’m getting it too, even though https://ritualfields.com/site/xmlrpc.php is responding as expected. But Jetpack seems to be working now—it’s successfully installed, I’m getting daily stats, etc.
I’ll mark this as resolved, and if I encounter other issues, I’ll post on the Jetpack support forum instead. Thanks again for your help!
