Trying to connect the desktop app to my website
-
I’ve selected ‘I already own a domain’ but then I go to a screen with two options, both of which require payment. The options are transfer your domain or keep your domain with current provider and point to wordpress.com. The latter sounds like it will achieve what I’m trying to do. (FYI, I use a wordpress.org/a separate hosting provider. Oh and also my domain is from a different company too, if that matters but it probably doesn’t).
I’m new and confused and possibly confusing people reading right now. I simply want to connnect my website to the desktop app. Do I need to do something with this cool Jetpack plugin thing that I’ve got as a plugin, first? Hell, do I need to download it to my computer? NGL, that’s another thing I find confusing. WordPress.org plugins seem to download to the actual computer, if I’m not mistaken.
TL;DR Anyway sorry for the ramble – please PLEASE anyone just help me understand how to connect my (wordpress.org, if it matters) website to the WordPress desktop app.
WP.com: Unknown
Jetpack: Yes

Hi there:
If your site is hosted elsewhere, you don’t need to set up a WordPress.com site and plan. You just need a WordPress.com account (which is not the same as the account you use to login and manage your website), install the Jetpack plugin to your site, then go through their connection process to connect to your
nomster9WordPress.com account. You’ll need to do this because the Desktop app was created for WordPress.com sites – so to use the functionality there, you need to install the Jetpack plugin. If you’re not sure how to install Jetpack, you can follow their instructions here:
You would then log into the WordPress.com desktop app using your WordPress.com login credentials (not the one you use to manage your site).
I hope that clarifies things!
