Trying to create a new site
-
I tried to create a new site 2 days ago but somehow couldn’t get it to work. I’m calling it ReelPeople or Reelism and started to create it by clicking ‘Create a New Site’ but now can’t find it. Do you know where it went? I got as far as choosing the theme, which I think is called Echo. Thank you immensely for any help. Heidi
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I got as far as choosing the theme, which I think is called Echo.
There is no ECHO theme here at wordpress.COM.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you are referring to a site that is not hosted here, and if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right-hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page

Yes, I’m aware of that, but the word ‘blog’ was added to RealPeople and that one worked. But once I was on the main page for the site, the link for Edit did not work, so I couldn’t write what my site was about.

If you wish to create another .wordpress.com blog under the http://heidipetsitting.wordpress.com/ account see here Adding a New Site or Blog to an Existing Account https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account

It seems you referring to https://realpeopleblog.wordpress.COM but have failed to provide me with the relevant link. That site was created in 2013. It was not created 2 days ago. Is it the site in question or not?
Bottom line: We cannot help unless or until you provide the required details.
What is the exact URL starting with https:// of the wordpress.COM hosted site you refer to please?
And, exactly which wordpress.COM username account registered that site?

Ecto was the theme I chose. I now have found my new site, reelpeopleblog.wordpress.com. But the theme page has changed. before I had a choice of 3 different types, now the themes go on and on. I now have the Ecto page open with my site title on it but this is where I got stuck. It says click the edit link but which one is that?

A blog is a website. The difference between blog and website is simply structure and semantics.
A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.
What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one-way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.
Any WordPress blog can be restructured from being post based to being page based – no upgrade required. For greater clarity read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/

https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-blog-setup/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/Switching themes can be easily done, provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the site. Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Hi there,
I see this thread has been tagged for staff assistance. Do you still need help with this?
When you click on My Sites at the top of your page and then click the Switch Site link, you should see both your sites listed there. Select the one you want to work on, and then pick the option you need from the My Sites menu.
-
Yes, I still need help, thanks. I created the new site then it took me to the main page, where I was to write what the site was about. But I clicked Edit and nothing happened and I was unable to write. It was the Edit underneath the copy that was already there. I clicked the pencils on the side and those seem to be for sidebars.
I’ll try again and see what happens.

I got it to work! It wouldn’t the past few days. Would you know how I can find a movie-theme photo for the home page header?
Thanks.

It sounds like you were trying to edit the content via the Customizer at https://wordpress.com/customize/reelpeopleblog.wordpress.com. The Customizer is only for editing the appearance of your theme, and the edit links under your content won’t work on that page.
Instead, view your site at https://reelpeopleblog.wordpress.com/ and click the Edit links appearing there to edit existing content. You can also go to My Sites ->Posts or My Sites ->Pages and edit your content from there.
We have some information on how to find free images that you can use for your site here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/add-media/finding-free-images-and-other-media/@timethief, who answered you above, has also written about this. You can look at these posts for more options where to find free images:

Thanks so much, this will help. I managed to change the copy on what the site is about, now my next step is to find an image that works for the title page. Then publish my first post.
Thanks again.

Hi.
I keep trying to create a new password and it keeps saying I’ve already tried that one and to try a new one. Yet I never used that one. I want to hire someone on fiverr to do a couple quick things for me on this new blog but can’t get the new password to work. Please help.
Also, the photo of my subject is way too fuzzy. I tried resizing but feel that I should just ask someone to do this or show me how.
Thanks for any help.

Where exactly are you trying to create a new password? Our system doesn’t prevent you from using a password you’ve used before. Are you updating it under your security settings?
https://wordpress.com/me/security/If you want to give someone else access to your site it would be better to invite them as a user under My Site ->People ->Add. Don’t give them your WordPress.com login details, as then they’ll be able to take over your account and/or delete your entire site.
If you want the person to be able to make changes to your theme you’ll need to invite them as an admin, but be aware that will allow them to also add users themselves, and they’d be able to do absolutely anything on your site short of changing/deleting the address.
The person you invite will also need to create a WordPress.com account if they don’t already have one.

I go to MySites then click ‘security’ which takes me to a page where I can change my password. The old password is already there in the form of dots. When I try to change it, each time it says I’ve already used that one, even if I close my eyes and pound the keys and type anything. It always says the same thing. Am I on the wrong page?
Thank you for telling me how I can add someone. I shall try that.
Also, when I go to my new reelpeopleblog page, it has what my site is about below the post of an interview I did with someone. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? I want to see how it looks when the public goes to it, but if I am logged in, it always shows me my dashboard.
