Trying to create a test user role for LearnDash

I’m trying to create a user role to pilot a LearnDash LMS, and have made a fake test user profile to try it out. I’ve made all of my courses Closed, published every lesson and topic, granted this test user role permissions to ‘read_courses’ and added this user to a course in the course’s settings – but when logged in as the fake test user, I can’t access any lessons or topics assigned to the course. I can only see the course-level overview of information (basically, what all the lessons and topics are called.) The course page still prompts me to enroll in the course, but that I can’t because it’s a Closed course.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom on the WordPress side for how to make this work?
