Trying to Delete Domain Mapping

Last year, I was trying to get my dangerkatt.wordpress.com to map to the the name of my website, dangerkatt.com. I could never get it to work. So I gave up, and decided to instead build a dangerkatt.com as a separate website, and keep WP as a separate blog.

Now, I’m working with a web developer to build up dangerkatt.com, and for some reason I suddenly cannot keep dangerkatt.com from pointing at my WP blog. I deleted the domain map in my Upgrades section, and now dangerkatt.com is displaying a mostly blank screen, with nothing but an error message that reads:

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domain Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

I empty my cache, restart the browser, and then dangerkatt.com works again for a while, but then after a few visits, the website goes away and I get the blank screen/error message again.

I have checked my Godaddy account, and the nameservers there are NS39.DOMAINCONTROL.COM and NS40.DOMAINCONTROL.COM.

Just trying to figure out why, if I have deleted site mapping on WP, is my dangerkatt.com site still being controlled by WP?

It looks like you got it working. It goes to a non-WP.com blog for me.

    Thanks for checking.

At present, I’m getting the error message again when I open up dangerkatt.com. The site worked for a few hours, now it’s giving the error message again. I emptied the cache of my browser, still getting that error message. It’s been doing this all day, working on and off.

I try opening dangerkatt.com on the LTE on my phone – so, a different network – and the site works fine.

How can I predict when it will work, when it won’t? If I send a client there, how will I know if the site is going to work or not? It seems like there’s still a problem, that WP is still mapping the domain name, even though I told it not to.

    Anyone have experience with this?

Yes, we all do, every one of us with a custom domain.

Every time you change a domain setting, it takes up to 72 hours for the DNS to settle down. If you change it back, then change it again trying to tweak it, the clock starts over every time. The behaviour you’re seeing is consistent with a normal pattern of resolution, so just wait it out.

It’s been five days now, and the DNS has still not settled. The dangerkatt.com site is still going in and out: from working, to getting the “Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found” error message.

I empty the cache, try different browsers, machines, networks, and the problem is still occurring.
