Trying to get a hold of someone……,

    I have been trying for days to get my domain to transfer. I have not been receiving the validation code through email as it says that I should be. I tried deleting this site all together and its saying I need to manage my purchases which I have done. I purchased my domain and I own it. I need someone to please respond.

    You bought the domain, chefandrewlittle.com, on 17 December. You need to own a domain for 60 days before you can transfer it to a different registrar. You’ve owned that domain for 38 days, so it’s not possible to transfer it yet.

    I also see that you cancelled that domain yesterday. The moment you confirmed the domain cancellation you stopped being the domain’s owner. You can’t transfer a domain you don’t own.

    I have cancelled and refunded the domain mapping upgrade you bought to try and fix this, and I have emailed our registrar to try and get your cancelled domain back. If they restore it, I can reactivate it on your account, and then you can transfer it once you’ve owned it for 60 days.

    I managed to restore your domain. Now that it’s been restored I can see you actually bought it in 2012, so you should be able to transfer it.

    You will first need to re-verify the email address in your domain contact details. I’ve sent an email with a link you can use to do this. The email will come from a @secureserver.net address.

    Once you’ve done that, you should be able to start the transfer process again by following these instructions:

    Thank you very much for doing that. I have been trying to transfer my domain, but I no longer have access to the email address that is under my contacts. I have also tried switching the email but it keeps asking me to verify from both the old account and the new one.

    Which means I have not received your email from @secureserver.net.

    Can you please help me with updating my email so I may receive these emails?

  • I can’t help you change the email – literally only you can do that – but I can send you an alternative verification link for the change. I’ve sent that to the email address appearing in your WordPress.com account settings.

    If you click the link in that email the email address change will be completed, but your domain will also be locked again for 60 days. We might be able to get around that, but let’s first get the change confirmed so you have a valid email address in your domain contacts again.

    Let me know, either here, or in reply to the email I sent, once you have clicked the confirmation link.

  • Okay, your domain shows as verified now.

    As I had feared it is now showing as transfer-locked, but I’ve emailed our registrar again to try and get that lifted. I’ll let you know once I hear back from them.

  • I have heard back from our registrar. I’m afraid it’s not possible to get the transfer lock lifted – that is the result of the fact that you didn’t have access to the old contact email on the domain. Domains are regulated by an organisation called ICANN and all registrars have to follow their policies, so our registrar cannot get around this in any way.

    You won’t be able to transfer your domain until 24 March, but meanwhile I can help you point it to a different hosting provider.

    Where do you want your site to be hosted? If you can get me that hosting provider’s Name Servers or IP addresses, I can point the domain to them for you, so you’ll still be able to use it for your site there until you are able to transfer it.

    I am switching to WIX.com. Right now the sites domain is andrewtrentlittle.com

    The name server is ns7.wixdns.net or ns6.wixdns.net

  • Okay. I’ve updated the name servers for you. This change can take up to 72 hours to take effect, but then your domain should be showing your Wix site.

    I’ll check in March to make sure your domain has been unlocked, but please don’t hesitate to ask if you need help with anything else in the meantime.

    I just wanted to let you know that the transfer lock has now been lifted from your domain, so you should now be able to transfer it if you still want to.
