Trying to get refund on automatic payment

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I am trying to get a refund on an automatic payment that just went through on my card. I didn’t want an automatic payment to go through and I have recently lost my job. How do I go about this payment (that is attempting to clear my account now) to be refunded?

The email support system is not available currently.

    Thank you,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. You should be able to cancel your upgrade and get a refund via the My Upgrades page in the dashboard: https://en.support.wordpress.com/refunds/

If you run into any difficulty, reply in this thread and I’ll tag it for staff attention.

Also look out on your dashboard for the “Can I help you” pop-up window. If you see that it means a staff member is available to help you in live chat. That might be faster than waiting for them to respond in the forum.

    Hello,

No – it wont allow me to do so as it is an ‘auto renewal’, although I just received an email stating

‘ This upgrade includes all the WordPress.com upgrades as well as a free domain, with 40% savings.

WordPress.com Premium costs A$129.00, and it is set to expire in 29 days, on May 14, 2015 . If this upgrade expires, all the bundled upgrades will be removed, and your site will no longer be available at poliopinionated.com.’

So… I don’t know why they have already charged me.

I just cancelled my upgrade – but there was absolutely nothing said about refunding my money in the cancelling of the upgrade.

‘The upgrade has been cancelled as requested.’

Can you tag a staff member so I can get the $129 deducted without my permission returned, it is stressing me out.

  • So… I don’t know why they have already charged me.

I once read somewhere that auto-renewals are done a month early to ensure your domain doesn’t expire by accident, so that’s probably what happened.

I’ve tagged this thread for staff to follow up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

Also look out for the live chat feature on your dashboard. You might get help faster that way. If you manage to contact staff this way before they answer this thread, please set this thread to resolved and let me know so I can remove the staff tag again.

I have auto renew on some of my upgrades and yes they renew 30 days before they expire – that gives time to fix problems if the payment does not happen

  • Thanks for confirming that, @auxclass

You be welcome – trips up a lot of folks – and when someone starts a new upgrade they see the renewal in 11 months and get really excited about the “short count” when it is just the normal renewal process

  • I think it was actually in one of those threads that I saw someone give this explanation :)

Hi @bdelly! Our records show that you successfully voided the charge and it won’t be deducted from your account.

Auto-renew has also been cancelled on your domain, and poliopinionated.com is set to expire on the 25th May. You won’t be charged when it does so. If you’d prefer, I can carry on to cancel it for you now to stop you from receiving further notifications about it. Just let me know!
