Trying to import my old WordPress.org blog

    I want to import my old WordPress.org blog on a self-hosted site into my new WordPress.com site. I was able to export my old blog as an XML file, but when I try importing it into my new blog I receive the message, ‘There don’t appear to be any authors in your import file. Try another file or contact support.’
    All of the the posts in my old blog were authored by me (Phil).
    My old blog is using an old version of WordPress.
