Trying to Import Xanga posts
-
I received this, but can’t seem to find out how to access these attributes since I am a free subdomain of wordpress.
‘Sorry, there has been an error.
File is empty. Please upload something more substantial. This error could also be caused by uploads being disabled in your php.ini or by post_max_size being defined as smaller than upload_max_filesize in php.ini.’The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It does not sound like you are using this process and it is the only one that works http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/import-from-xanga/

That’s exactly the method I used. Xanga exported 5 files. I opened all of them in Dreamweaver to make sure they weren’t corrupt or empty. Each one had posts in html. When I clicked the “upload and import” button after selecting one of the 5 xml files. It returned the above error code. I use Google Chrome. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions! I’ve been copying and pasting old posts all day!

Hi lindzlouetbu,
I see 22 posts were imported successfully. If you have more posts to import repeat the same process. I checked and the importer is ready for additional import files if needed.
It also looks like you attempted to import a .zip file. As a reminder, you’ll want to import the .xml files.

Non of those were imported. I copied and pasted them myself from the xml file. I uploaded the zip file in error prior to reading the instructions. I will try uploading one of the 5 again tonight if you’d like me to but unless any changes have been made by you or your team I think my efforts will be fruitless. Please let me know what to do moving forward. Thank you!

Hi Lindsay,
Please do try the import again. If the import fails the errors produced will help us troubleshoot the issue.

It didn’t work :( Here is the process I’m using. Please let me know if I need to do something differently. I have also supplied screenshots:
Step 1: After selecting xanga on the list, this prompt pops up and I select my file.
Step 2: After clicking import, I select my admin and continue.
Step 3: Processing page comes up…I leave it there until i receive the email in next step.
Step 4: I receive the confirmation email saying it was successfully imported.

Also..if you would like to see the xml files to try and do it or look at it to make sure everything imported correctly please let me know what email address to send them to. thank you for your help!

Hi lindsay,
I took a look at your import files and was able to replicate the error when using the Xanga Importer. However, Xanga recently switched to a WordPress multisite install so when I used the WordPress importer I was able to import your posts into a test site with no issue.
Could you try the import one more time, this time using the WordPress importer and only uploading the last two files (19902328_2.xml, 19902328_3.xml)
