Trying to insert icon for blog

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

    I’m having a bit of a hard time inserting a blog icon onto my blog. My issue is twofold. On one hand, it seems the only way to insert an image as an icon is to crop it. Is that right? If so, what is the recommended size for an image icon?

    Secondly, upon cropping an image, it did not actually appear on my blog as an icon. Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Are you referring to having a Blavatar?

    The best resolution for the Blavatar is 128 * 128 pixels square. I do see that you have a Blavatar uploaded and it is showing correctly for me. You might need to clear your brower’s cache in order to see it.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the quick response. I’m referring to the “Blog Picture/Icon” uploader in the General Settings page of my blog’s dashboard. I’ve uploaded an image of my company’s icon (resized so I don’t have to crop), and it doesn’t appear that it’s shown up in my blog (URL below):

    I’ve tried clearing my browser’s cache — I’m using Firefox — and nothing’s happened. Please advise.

    Thanks,
    Ben

  • It appears to be working properly, but browsers cache favicons for a rather long period, so you may not see it on your own browser for a while.

    Hi,

    Can you please explain a bit further? I’m still not seeing our logo on my blog, and we need to get this launched right away. Please provide the steps I need to take to upload my logo properly and get it to display on my blog.

    Thanks,
    Ben

    I can see the icon now: https://img.skitch.com/20110725-h8whh7ci4bky5pxtsim93418w.png is it still not showing for you? Could you refresh the page, and if that doesn’t work, clear your browser’s cache & cookies?

    Hi,

    Appreciate the quick response. I am seeing the icon in my address bar, but not on the blog itself: http://mofuseblog.wordpress.com/. How can I change the “mofuseblog” to my logo?

    I tried clearing my browser’s cache/cookies, but still nothing.

    Thanks,
    Ben

  • If you’re referring to where it says, “mofuseblog” that can’t actually be replaced with an image, but the text can be changed by editing the Site Title in the Settings section of your blog’s Dashboard.

    Hmm…ok. Might you know of any themes/templates in which that text CAN be replaced by an image? Ideally, we’d want something like you see here: http://blog.mofuse.com/.

    Thanks,
    Ben

    In your current theme, which is Garland, you could actually use custom CSS to replace the text. You can do this with the Custom Design upgrade which costs $30 per year. The Custom Design upgrade let’s you modify a theme’s layout using CSS.

    You can preview CSS changes for free. To try it, enter the following CSS into your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS tab and click the preview button:

    #logo-floater {
    background: url(http://blog.mofuse.com/wp-content/themes/mofuse_v2/images/logo.png) no-repeat 20px;
    width: 180px;
    }

    #logo-floater h1 a {
    margin-left: -9999px;
    }

    If you’d rather switch themes, there are a number of themes which allow you to upload a custom header image. Search for “custom-header” on the Appearance → Themes page to find them or check out the Custom Header Image help page to see a list. You could create a custom header image with the dimensions specified for the theme and put the logo inside of that image to get a similar effect.
