Trying to install a theme and an old layout still appears

  I’m trying to install a new theme, I was playing around with another one and now when I try to install a theme the sections of the other one only appear. I’d like remove what I had installed previously so I can install a fresh theme and work off that one, but I don’t know how to do this? Any help would be appreciated.
