trying to install twitter timeline
-
Hi, I’m trying to install Twitter & Instagram timelines (i.e. my last few posts) into the widget sidebar on my blog pages (excluding front home page). As far as I can see I’ve followed all the instructions – created Twitter widget, copied link into WordPress, saved changes.. The Instagram one works fine but the Twitter one doesn’t show posts, it just says My Tweets in what looks like a hyperlink but doesn’t actually link to anything. I’ve added the Twitter icon so people can go through there but it would be nice to have the last few tweets displayed. Any ideas if there’s something I may have missed? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. From my experience, when the My Tweets appears in what looks like a hyperlink, there is a problem with the Twitter Widget ID.
I would go back to Twitter and review your settings
https://twitter.com/settings/widgets
You should be able to see a preview of what the widget would look like while still in the Twitter Edit Widget screen. If it looks correct there, then try recopying the Widget ID into your WP-Admin. If that doesn’t work, you should try starting over.I hope that helps, please reply back if you need more assistance.

Thanks for your reply, I’ve tried this numerous times, all looks ok on the preview but still I end up with the same result unfortunately.

I’m not seeing any widgets on http://16beasleystphotos.wordpress.com/.
Can you set up the widgets again so I can take a look?

Hi, thanks for your message. I’ve done it again with the same result. The Instagram one is working so you should see that, the Twitter one still just adds My Tweets in what looks like a hyperlink but isn’t. I also have blog stats, follow buttons for WordPress, social media icons and a tag cloud, all working. These are in a sidebar to the right on the two additional pages (Contact and Live Music A-Z) not on the Home landing page. Thank you for looking.

It looks like you have not entered a Twitter widget ID yet. Screenshot:

Thanks for looking but as I said in my first post I’ve followed those steps numerous times. There’s no problem creating a widget link, the preview looks as it should, I copy the link into WordPress and save and it adds ‘My Tweets’ to the sidebar but no preview or functioning hyperlink. I genuinely think I’ve followed the instructions accurately and have tried again with each support response but it’s not changing anything. Think I’ll just have to call time on it and leave it as just the click through icons. Cheers anyway.

I copy the link
Just to reiterate, once you’ve created and saved the widget on Twitter, the only part of the link you need to add to the WPcom widget is the numerical ID# in the Twitter link.
-
Here are my step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: First create your timeline widget on twitter under Settings>Widgets. Make sure to save it.
Step 2: After creating the widget on twitter, copy the long string of numbers from your browser’s address bar. That’s your widget ID.
Step 3: In your WordPress.com widget dashboard, drag and drop the Twitter Timeline Widget to the sidebar where you want it to appear. Open the widget.
Step 4: On the Widget ID line, paste the long string of numbers you copied. All the other settings are frosting. Save your widget.
Step 5: Wait for twitter to catch up. It’s not instantaneous the first time.

Thanks – I’ve done that and it’s been a few days so I reckon it would have caught up by now?
-
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful to all who’ve answered but these are the same instructions as I started with and I am following them meticulously. It’s just not working and I wondered if anyone knew of anything else I could try. I can keep doing this till I’m blue in the face but it doesn’t make any difference :) Thank you.

And as strange as it sounds, the exact information that is missing from your widget is the “data-widget-id=”(the numbers from the link that twitter gives you)”
Have a look at the sourcecode on my post
https://ablogdemo.wordpress.com/2015/08/07/it-took-a-musicians-ear-to-decode-the-complex-song-in-whale-calls/ and look for class=”twitter-timeline” to see what I mean. -

Would you mind sharing the ID number of the widget you created on Twitter? Once I know what it is I can try to see if I can get it to display temporarily on my test site.
If you’d rather not share the ID number in the forums (which will be publicly displayed), please copy and paste the ID number in a text widget in your site’s sidebar (which you can remove later) and post back here when you’ve added it. I’m subscribed to this thread so I can try and catch it quickly.
-
Or, you can put the ID in a draft post and save it and I will be able to see it there.
Although there really is no harm in posting it publicly. I will be happy to remove it from the thread once we’ve sorted out the issue.

The problem is Word Press provides extremely poor directions as to which part of the Twitter ID should be copied and pasted into the Twitter Timeline. It takes about a half an hour and numerous mistakes to guess on how to install it even when one follows directions.
I removed my Twitter Timeline this morning and then wanted to reinstall it later and have had no luck so far (I’ve only been working on it 25 minutes).
