    Hi there,

    I believe there’s some confusion between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.

Check here to learn more about the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

I believe you are self-hosted with Hostgator using the WordPress install on WordPress.org. If you are, then you would not need a WordPress.com site: ineedafreebie.wordpress.com. I can then remove the WordPress.com Premium trial and domain mapping. However, if you do want to host with us at WordPress.com, please update your nameservers to ours (not Hostgator):

    • NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    • NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

This will provide you more information about hosting with us:

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

I would then like to use wordpress.org as it allows me to install plugins.
Please cancel the 14-day trial at wordpress.com.
All the work ive done in wordpress is now available to me at wordpress.org?

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Hi Eric,

All the work ive done in wordpress is now available to me at wordpress.org?

No, we are two completely separate entities. What you can do is Export your current site and then find a host for you self-hosted sites and install WordPress. Once you have done that, you can then Import the XML export file.

This guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:

If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if it’s right for you:

Do you still want me to cancel the Premium upgrade and the domain mapping? Please reply to confirm!
