Trying to Organize Subpages
-
I keep trying to figure this out – originally posted at CSS, but I don’t think that was the right forum.
Here’s the issue:
I would like to alphabetize my subpages under my Parent Page Movie Reviews. I cannot figure out how to do this – in the CSS forum I was told to use the Widgets, but that only alphabetized the subpages as they appeared on my Home Page. To remove clutter from my Home Page, I’ve actually removed that widget altogether.
Is there a way to organize subpages as they appear on a Parent Page?
Thank you in advance,
~Heidi

I said to use the pages widget because I didn’t have a link to your blog. (That is one of the reasons it is recommended to link your blog in your username.)
Generally speaking, I agree with teck07 here – searches are your friend. There is a wealth of information in the forums, but more importantly, in the FAQ. Try looking here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/can-i-sort-my-pages/

believe me, I had searched and searched forums with no luck, but thank you for the link – I’ll check it out.

it’s not working…arg!!!
When I look at my pages in Manage Pages, they are in alphabetical order, but they are not in that same order on the Movie Review Page.
I tried to give each page an alphabetical order by using Page Order Box at the bottom of each page, but each time I do a new review I’ll have to change that box on every single page…
I’m sure I’m overlooking something that is right in front of my face.

I’m not sure how or if this will help.I’m currently compiling a huge listing of xbox 360 games alphabetically, The WP.com page directory automatically sorts the sub pages under the “parent” page.
So I have Xbox games listing, which will appear as a tab at the top of my main site as part of the theme, then I have each page A – Z linked internally from that single page to each page of the alphabet.
While it’s not LIVE yet, I have tested it in previous things and it works fine. Then if I check the Pages on the left column of my site for say my movies/videos, I can see that each one is alphabetically sorted.
Not sure if that helps at all, but doing it that way for me seems to work. Having a parent page where everyone can simply go to, then choose a letter they wish to visit rather than have a huge sub-menu to choose from . . ? Just a thought.

@hmks: What happens in that page of yours has to do with the theme you’re using. Most themes don’t display the sub-pages of a parent page in the page itself. The problem is that MistyLook does, but unfortunately creates an UNORDERED list (as you’ve seen…).
So, since you don’t want to clutter your sidebar with such a long column of titles, you should either search for another theme that creates an ordered list (I don’t know if there are any) or stop having these pages as child pages and write a list yourself, manually. That’s not hard: you can open two windows in your browser and drag-and-drop the titles to the visual page editor; they come as complete links, and you can easily rearrange them.
But then again, the new problem would be that they would all show as page tabs, so again another theme, with no page tabs in the header, would be better in this case.
You see, you created a complication by publishing your reviews as pages; with posts, things would have been a lot more manageable.

Thanks Panaghiotisadam…
That’s exactly it – I shouldn’t have made each review into a separate page – I guess I may have to revamp the entire site.
Thank you for the help.

You might want to check out the Digg 3 I’ve found it an excellent theme and allows for a huge amount of customization and parent pages with nice tabs up the top.
