Trying to post slideshow, but get Java Script msg
-
Hi … I’ve been trying to post photos into blogs that I want to update, I select the photos, caption, add url selection, save and add slideshow .. same thing I do all the time. Yet today, when I did this, went to view the post and instead of the slideshow, I see the message that java script is needed and see a black rectangular box. Have there been changes in the past few days? I haven’t changed any settings in my computer.
Thank you, a.m.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I posted the slideshow without captions and that worked ok. then i updated a few more posts with slideshow captions and all seems to be ok now ..
-
I have got the same problem. It seems that in my case the captions including special characters such as “” or () were the cause of the problem. By deleting the special characters, the slideshow worked (also with captions)

I have the same problem. When I insert slideshow the message comes up that java script is needed. I have not used captions . What can I do to get the slideshow to play normally.?
-
We need a link to the blog please. Also make sure in your browser preferences that you have javascript enabled. It sounds like either you don’t or perhaps you have a “no-script” add-on installed on your browser.
-
The message about java script being required appears in Firefox, IE and Chrome.

Some of the older posts play the slideshow correctly but the last few posts will not now display correctly. -
Go into one of the posts that are not displaying the slideshow correctly, copy out the shortcode and paste it here in the forums so that we can take a look at it.
-
Not sure what you mean by copy out the shortcode but I have tried to do this. Here it is:
<img class=”aligncenter size-medium wp-image-527″ title=”comenius (199)” src=”http://newmarketns.files.wordpress.com/2010/09/comenius-199.jpg?w=300″ alt=”” width=”300″ height=”200″ />[gallery link="file" order="DESC" columns="2"] -
Edit a post where this problem is happening and switch to the HTML editor. Copy the slideshow shortcode from there and paste here. Some how I think it won’t say anything more than [slideshow]
Check also that your flash player is up to date.
-
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/ is where you can test both shockwave and flash.
There is a problem on this post http://newmarketns.wordpress.com/2010/09/24/our-trip-to-norway/ where it seems there’s a bit of errant code.
What makes me suspect that particular bit of code is messing things up your front page is that when I look at the front page of your blog, no slideshows work, but looking at individual older posts that include slideshows, they all work.
-
I’m seeing blanks on their site and I have the latest flash, so I suspect it is either the code or perhaps something in the backend.
-
@tsp, have a look at that post I indicated above; see the errant code under the slideshow? Then look at any other individual post with a slideshow. For me they’re working.
-
Ahh yes Jennifer, I think you are right. It is something in that post you referenced that is mucking up the works.
-
Thanks everyone for this. I deleted the post with the errant code and lo and behold all the slideshows in the other posts on the front page are now displaying correctly.
Now I have another problem. in the slideshows the photos do not seem to fit correctly in the frames . They block some of the text which appears below the slideshow. Any ideas on this?
Thanks in anticipation. -
Hm, not seeing this. Can you give us a direct link to a Post where this is happening so we can look at it?
-
All of the posts with a slideshow have this problem.
This problem does not happen on other WordPress blogs which we have. -
In the post you’ve linked to, in both Firefox and Chrome, I see the following text immediately under the slideshow, “Today is the 28th of September 2010. At lunchtime our football league final was starting. The teams were as follows:…”
Is there some text before that which the slideshow is hiding?
-
Hi again,
No that is the first piece of text. This line is visible at the start when you open the post but when the slideshow begins to play, the photos drop down a little bit below the frame and this obscures the first line of text. -
I just checked and this problem of the photos dropping down below the frame only happens in Firefox. The photos appear in the frame in IE and Chrome.
-
The bit with images coming unglued from their position in the slideshow frame in Firefox has been discussed before here in the forums, though I do not know if/how it was resolved.
FWIW-when I viewed that slideshow, the photos were well-behaved and stayed in their frame. I’m running FF 3.6.12
