Trying to put categories in pages
-
Hi, Im kind of new and I’ve been setting up my blog. I figured out how to put parent pages and subpages but I also want to know if there is a way that to add pages by categories or link it to a subpage so when someone clicks on that category it will go to that category post. here is my blog http://ramasdefe.wordpress.com
My blog is in spanish so the parent page im trying to use is this one, Entradas por Categoria wich means “Entries by category” I added a page under that for that catetory I want my first 2 post to connect to then i deleted cause it didnt work like I thought it would but Im not sure if it can. I actually saw someone else with the same theme as mine and she has it the way I want it *Blogs by Category* and when you click on lets say “CRAFTS” it takes you to posts all about crafts.
I hope im making myself clear and understand my question!
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The problem is, pages and posts are different things. Pages can’t have categories.

Yes, I know that thanks.
This is what I mean hopefully I dont get introuble for this, but hey more traffic lol. Look at this blog http://holleyblog.com/ when you put your pointer over Blogs by Category when you actually click on a category it takes you to a different page or so it looks like that. Thats what Ive been trying to do and shes the only example I could find cause she has the exact theme it looks like.
Im trying to figure out how she did that. Well I hope you can understan me now.
Thanks in advance!

The theme on that blog is called Wu Wei. We can assign categories and tags which are treated the same way by search engines to posts but not to pages. The instructions for assigning categories to posts are found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-categories/
After we publish posts with categories and/or tags to posts when clicked the links direct to the wordpress.com global tag pages where they are displayed by categories and tags. http://en.support.wordpress.com/global-tags/ When we position categories and tags widgets in the sidebar of our blogs those links direct only to posts in our own blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/categories-widget/

Thank you very much. That was really helpful.. thesacredpath the only thing is that the custom menu shows up way at the bottom in this theme, is there a way to have the tab show up on top like hers you know what I mean? or connecting it to the parent page? :(….

At appearance > menus, with your menu selected, make sure and select “primary” from the “primary location under theme locations at top left and click the save button.
-
Wait, you have the categories widget in the right footer widget area. You need to remove that.
Also, make sure and select all your categories and add them to your new menu and then slide them one by one slightly to the right to make them sub-items that will appear on the pulldown.

Even easier.. use this plugin http://aralbalkan.com/1016
After you install the plugin, you simply add to your page the Post ID surrounded by double square brackets ([[nnnn]] where nnnn is the numeric ID of the post you want to include
