Trying to remove Flikr widget from sidebar

  • Unknown's avatar

Im looking at trying to blog about my travels around the world by bicycle and looking at the suitability of wordpress. Have created some development content to my site [ https://freewheelindylan.wordpress.com/ ] which is currently only using free themes and no subscriptions while I get to grips with what WordPress can do.

I’m impressed, but having managed to put a Flikr widget in my right hand sidebar I am now unable to find that content in the back end of the site, I can’t find any of the content of those right hand columns at all.

I’ve created a Gallery page on my site which I prefer to the widget and want to delete the Flikr feed.

    Can anyone help?

  • Hello there,

I’ve created a Gallery page on my site which I prefer to the widget and want to delete the Flikr feed.

From the Customizer area you can access the widgets that you have added. This is a link to the support doc that will guide you through how you add (and how you can delete) widgets: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/

    Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your answer and trying to help me. This is what I thought I should do but when I click on ‘Widgets’ theres a message below where it says “You are customising… Widgets”, which states…

“Your theme has 2 widget areas, but this particular page doesn’t display them.

You can navigate to other pages on your site while using the Customizer to view and edit the widgets displayed on those pages.”

There is nothing else at all in the left hand column until the very bottom of the screen where is says “Hide Controls” and has the icons for PC / Tablet / and Phone.

Does this make any sense… where did the controls go and how to get them back?

    Howdy there,

It does make sense. Though can you provide a screenshot of your browser when you get this message? Also, can you confirm which page/URL on your site where you currently still see the Flikr widget still showing up?

My guess here is that you need to open up your theme customizer interface on the a page that the Flikr widget was added to in order to remove it. While in Customizer, navigate to the page in question and you should see a sidebar for that specific page:

I tried to recreate with a theme by the same developer (Yoko theme was not available for use on WordPress.com) and found that I could add the Flikr widget to just one page rather than all like the screenshot implies above.

Really hope this helps out but show us what your seeing if that doesn’t do the trick.

    Best wishes,
