trying to see what has been written awaiting moderation?

I am very new to this – like 2 or 3 days and I received a ‘comment’ via email alert. I have been searching to try and work out the email and moderation thing and think I understand that depending on preferences depends on if the comment appears automatically or not. But, when I go to look at the comment in moderation mode, it is very short and cryptic, I don’t seem to be able to look at the whole message (if there is one?) and when I click on the only thing that there is to click on it automatically takes me to a website with no explanation really. Am I looking at this correctly to start with? I hope I explained this right! Also, do most people do email moderation first because of spam or do you just let comments go on your blog and then delete them if you need to? What is the ‘norm’? (I have looked at previous questions/answers and even put this question on one, but now realise it was ‘resolved’ so that’s why no one looks at it).
    thanks

If your blog is here at WordPress.com, then you’ve got Akismet working already and it should take care of most spam. I wouldn’t bother with comment moderation unless it is critically important that nothing inappropriate ever, ever get posted to your blog.

The short, cryptic message you’re referring to sounds like a trackback. That’s something that shows up and looks like an incomplete comment, but it shows up when somebody links to you from their blog. The trackback will contain a link to their blog, and if you click on it you go there and can see the blog post they linked to you from.
