This might be a good place to start: Learn WordPress. What do you mean be “set up a website”?

http://jammack.wordpress.com/ – is a web site – just set up in “blog” format

Why not do as I do? I just tell people I have a web site – I don’t think anyone really cares about the “title” be it a “blog” or “web site” as long as the site has the information they want on it

May I step into this conversation?
I have nothing to contribute but I do have a question of my own.

I take heed from the comments made by auxclass.
Even though I am a member, I do not think I have a:
    xxxxxxx.wordpress.com account.

    My question is:
Do I need one if I want to blog?

I do not want to double up and have 2 blogs.
    When I select “My sites”
I get this message that says

“You don’t have any WordPress Sites yet Would you like to start one?”

Does that mean I don’t have blog?

    Hi JB,

You do have a site setup on your account. The URL of the site is johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com. It looks like you just set this up. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

    Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for your post relating to my URL.
I asked the question on this thread, did not receive any replies, so eventually figured it out for myself.

Yesterday I set up my URL.
Now today, I received your post.
    Thank you kindly.

Thank you for offering to answer further questions.
I do have a question for you.

My Home Page is static, at my request and uses the HEMINGWAY template. My question relates to that static Home Page. Just below the image is the word Home.

Am I able to bring the word Home closer to the image?
Is the word Home always going to be there or can I change it?

These are pretty basic questions, but it is the first time I have ever had a URL so please bear with me.

In the meantime, if it is OK by you, I shall visit your site and see how you are set up.

    Kind regards
    JB

    Hi JB,

It looks like both of your sites are now running the Sequential theme. Did you need help setting up that theme? Otherwise, if you would like to switch back to Hemingway Rewritten, happy to help out there as well!

    Hi Jeremy,

    Both Sites!!!!!!

I thought I only had one. Today I changed the theme from Hemingway Rewritten to Wilson.

Bit by bit I am sifting through, so I should be OK.

I do thank you, however for your help.

    What is the sequential theme?

There is one question that I have.
Am I able to see these forum posts on my site somewhere?

    Kind regards
    JB

    Hi JB,

The Sequential theme is the one showcased here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/sequential

You currently have it setup at jammack.wordpress.com.

Am I able to see these forum posts on my site somewhere?

These forum posts will not appear on your website. They are, however, available on your Forum profile, which you can see here:

    Hi Jeremy,

    Thank you for your replies.

In the setting up of my website, I need your advice.

    This is my intention.
Each piece that I write will have its own distinct static page, with its own separate title.

    for example:
    Bonjour…Au Revoir
    USA in the Fall
    Cigarettes and Scooters

All of these pieces will come under the umbrella of STORIES

What is the best way to set that up?
    Menu, Categories or Other.

What would be nice if a visitor clicked on STORIES he or she could see the Titles plus an Image, very similar to how yours is configured.

I do not, however, want to go premium. For the time being I am happy to use a free WordPress Theme.

The Theme may be limiting, but that’s OK.

So what would your advice be on the configuration of my pieces?

    Kind regards
    JB

The best way to set that up is to make blog posts, use categories, and use a custom menu to link to the category pages. https://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/

    Hi raincoaster,

I’ve checked out Custom Menu and I am happy to go down that track.

There is one issue, and that is that I prefer my pages to be static, rather than dynamic. I do not wish to get these pages from my blog post. I would like to get them from a static page.

Is this going to create a problem with Custom Menu?

    Kind regards
    JB

Is there a way that I could create a Navigation Label called STORIES and when hovered over it lists Story 1, Story 2, Story 3 etc?

Story 1, Story 2, Story 3 etc would be static pages not dynamic.

    Is that possible?

    Kind regards
    JB

    Sorry, no hovering.

Is there a way that I could:

    1. Create a Navigation Label called STORIES
    2. Click on the tab called STORIES [Not hover]
    3. And when I click a page opens up with a LIST of stories
    4. I click on one of the stories and see that story with Title Text and Image

I read something about Parent and child.
I read something about Menu and Sub Menu.

One thing I don’t want is that I don’t want to access my posts pages to get the stories.

I am a little bit bamboozled right now because I do not know how to establish what I want, nor do I know if the theme supports this.

If you have a solution I would love to hear from you.

    Kind regards
    JB

Yep! You can definitely do this. To do so, first, create a new page titled “Stories.”

Then, you’ll want to add links within the page to all of your stories, effectively creating the list you want. Here’s more on adding links:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links

Finally, you’ll want to put the page “Stories” into a custom menu as @raincoaster mentioned.

    Menus

Can you give this a try? Happy to help troubleshoot a bit more once we have a page in place to work with.

Jeremy, thank you for assisting to troubleshoot.
I have added components to my site but I just can’t get this happening the way I would like it.

Would you mind taking a look at it?

Re-read the link I gave you and go through it step by step. Blogs don’t look right until they have several posts up, and Category pages don’t show until there is at least one blog post in the category. So put more content in, wait awhile and once the contents are enough (like, say, ten posts in different categories) go through and try to fix whatever’s not working then. If you try earlier then there isn’t enough to get a sense of what’s going on.
