Trying to set up a free website
-
Thanks rainmaster, I shall re-read the document and see how I go the second time.
I guess it’s understanding the different methods and see which one works:
1. Custom Menu
2. Links
3. ParentYou see I don’t want to have a great long list of TABS in my Navigation Panel.
I shall keep working at it.
Kind regards

Hi JB!
I took at a look at this page:
That’s perfect. Now, we need to get some stories on that page instead of on your sidebar like this:
Can you follow these steps?
- Create a new custom menu here:
https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=0
Instructions to do that can be found here:
We only want to include the pages you want the reader to see. So, do not include Story 1, Story 2, Story 3, etc. Leave those off.
- Publish a new post called “Story 1.” Instructions for adding new posts can be found here:
At that point, we’ll have a new post (a new “story”), and we’ll be ready to put a link to it on your page titled “Stories.”
Let’s get to that point, and I’ll provide some additional instructions!
- Create a new custom menu here:
-
Thank you kindly for your help.
Today, I created a Custom Menu and called it Navigation Panel Menu.
I added 3 items to that menu, that all appear in the Navigation Panel.
Home
About
StoriesI then added 3 more labels as sub items under the umbrella of Stories.
A Static Page Link
A Dynamic Post Page
A Static Page PageThese 3 labels appear in the Navigation Panel and not in the text area of Stories.
I still do not know how to get them there.Kind regards

Hi JB!
From what I understand, you do not want the items to appear here:
Is that correct? If so, navigate to this page:
https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
Expand the sub-menu items and use the delete button:
Now, once you’ve done that, navigate to this page:
https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=140&action=edit
That’s the “Edit” page for your “Stories” page. Highlight the text you want to be linked and then paste in the link to the actual page like this:
Once you update the page, the words should be hyperlinked. Can you give that a try?
Additional link instructions can be found here:

Stories
http://wp.me/P5CHDj-2mAbove is the just the link to Stylistic Rome.
I would like to see the image and title of Stylistic Rome here as well.
I do not know how to do this.
Any suggestions?
Below is what happens when I cut and paste manually, but you cannot click on it, it’s just a piece of text with image.
Stylistic Rome
Stylistic RomeOn my first trip to Rome, I noticed how well the people dressed.

See the Links support page to learn how to create text links. Image links are created using the same Insert/edit link tool in a post or page editor menu bar. The HTML code you need to display the title “Stylistic Rome” (in header font) which links to the page https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome/ is
<header class=”entry-header”>
<h1 class=”entry-title” style=”text-align: center;”>Stylistic Rome</h1>
</header>The code for the image link to the page title “Stylistic Rome,” would be
<p style=”text-align: center;”><img class=”size-medium wp-image-167″ src=”https://johnbrennanlive.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/stylistic-rome.png?w=300&h=280″ alt=”Stylistic Rome” width=”300″ height=”280″ /></p>
-
Insert the URL of the page “Stylistic Rome,” https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome, in the first code. It was stripped.
-
Correction:
More than the URL was stripped. Replace the blue link “Stylistic Rome” in the first code above with(start tag)a href=”https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome/”(end tag).

Hi here music doc,
Thank you kindly for your suggestions. I am trying to implement them now.
Are your image links CLICKABLE?
When you click on the image, does it open the page?
Kind regards
JB -
Are your image links CLICKABLE?
Yes. The title and the image each link to your page https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome/.
-
-
I think I am missing something here.
How can I insert this link
https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome/.into an image?
JB
-
1. Embed the image in a post (or page).
2. Click on the image in the editor.
3. Click on the Insert/edit link tab in the editor admin panel at the top of the editor window. This will open a module.
4. Insert the destination link (e.g. https://johnbrennanlive.wordpress.com/stylisticrome/) in the box labled “URL.”
5. Click on the Add Link button at the bottom of the module, or on the Update button if you are edit an previously created image link. -
-
-
1. I have placed an image in the Stories Page
2. When I open the edit, the image is displayed as text
[caption id="attachment_176" align="alignnone" width="300"]<img src=”https://johnbrennanlive.files.wordpress.com/2015/01/stylistic-rome1.png?w=300″ alt=”Stylistic Rome” width=”300″ height=”280″ class=”size-medium wp-image-176″ /> Stylistic Rome[/caption]<div class=”entry-content”>This is where I am stuck.

Hi MusicDoc,
Thank you for showing me this.
With your help, I have now linked Stylistic Rome to the image above.
Now if I added other images and did what I have just done, is it possible to put them all into a grid?

Some themes have a special page template called Grid Page Template in which child pages of a page assigned to this template will display in a grid arrangement. This theme doesn’t have any template options. Themes which have a Grid Page Template include the following:
In the absence of a grid page template option you could use a table to a create a grid arrangement. See the suggestions by timethief in the forum topic Easy tables from word press.
