As you say it must have a slug called “stories” because the parent page opens and all the children display.

There has been no change to the file path.

The thing is that it does not display in the Navigation Panel.
That’s fine, it does not need to be there……

    UNLESS

When you navigate away from my Static Grid Template Page that I use as my Front Page, would I be able to get back?

I have yet to test this.

    Interesting, Interesting, Interesting.

Remember how I put <b> in the Title Window of Quick Edit, well the excerpts on each of my child pages have turned to bold.

Is there another text format symbol that I could use instead of <b>?

So at this point, I do not want to check if the slug reveals “stories” in case it defaults back to what it was.

What I mean is I don’t want to check on the Quick Edit just yet because the Title may revert back to Stories, given that the slug still reveals “stories”.

I am now going to navigate away from my adopted Front Page.
I will see if I can return to my adopted Front Page.

    My goodness…………

    Everything has turned to BOLD.
All pages have turned to BOLD.

That is what I found when I navigated away from my adopted Front Page.
Furthermore, I cannot get back to see my child pages.

    UNLESS……………….

I create another Parent, so my children have 2 Parents.
I don’t think that can be done.

What about if I created a Parent of a Parent?
    a Parent of <b>

Do you think that would work?

Instead of using <b> we could use a dot and change its colour to white.
Do you think that would work?

I have changed the Title back to “Stories” because you can’t get back to the page unless you log in again.

It may work if you refresh.

No. That’s exactly why you’ll probably want it there, with a drop-down menu stemming from it with a link to each child.

Remember how I put <b> in the Title Window of Quick Edit, well the excerpts on each of my child pages have turned to bold.

Why do you want to put something in the title box of quick edit? What happens when you leave it blank?

When left blank it would not let me save.
    Stories would regenerate.

I tried it with the letter S, and that was OK, but Blank No.

You’ve lost me on the parent of a parent idea.

When I was originally trying to leave the page title and page content of the grid page parent empty, I wasn’t able to. If I removed the title it would reappear, unless I had something in the page content. On a hunch I tried putting something in the excerpt module and found that if I did then I could leave the title and page content empty. Now, however, it appears unnecessary. I can leave the page title, content, and excerpts blank (after originally creating the page with a title, of course). But you’re reporting the issue I had previously. Does that happen at Quick Edit and at the page editor?

I’ll have to get back to you tomorrow. Late here.

You’ve lost me on the parent of a parent idea.

Sorry, I did not explain that. All I meant was that I would create a page, and give it a name. For the sake of this exercise let’s call the page “Alpha”.

    1. Open Custom Menu and include “Alpha” in Navigation Panel
    2. In the Page Attributes of “<b>” choose “Alpha” as the parent.

That way we could get back to “<b>” after we have navigated away from it.

The parent page doesn’t need a title, or even an HTML tag in the title field, in order to have a link to it in the custom menu. I only suggested using an HTML tag in the excerpts fields, not the title box. Last night I decided to try nothing in all three fields: title, page content, excerpts, and it worked. Don’t know why you’re not able to do the same. I’ll tag the topic for Staff Attention.

That should have been “excerpt field,” singular.

Last night I decided to try nothing in all three fields: title, page content, excerpts, and it worked.

But now it is not working, not as it was yesterday at least. It seems that WP eventually automatically insists that there be some content in one of the fields. Today when I checked the visible page again, I noticed that it had sharing buttons which weren’t there before. I could not disable sharing buttons on the page editor by unchecking the “Show sharing buttons” setting and updating, not until I added something to one of the three fields. And now I’m once again unable to leave all three fields blank as I did yesterday, regardless of whether sharing settings are displayed.

Yes that is exactly what happened to me previously when I was playing around with Quick Edit.

I found that you may be able to have zero content in the fields once, but when you go back to it, the fields demand content.

When I opened Quick Edit “stories” displayed in slug, but the title field demanded content so I inserted the HTML tag <b>.

I did not close the HTML tag, so all my pages turned to Bold.

Even if we eradicate the text in the Title field, we are still left with blank boxes in the page content.

    JB,

The excerpts field is the best place of the three fields to put the obligatory content, because its content has no affect on a grid page (parent) with the Motif theme.

Even if we eradicate the text in the Title field, we are still left with blank boxes in the page content.

Have you considered switching the theme to either Edin or Goran? I was able to eliminate the white box on a grid page with the title removed and no page content with each of these themes. The unwanted white box also shows with the Sela theme.

Strange that you mention this, I was only thinking of it today when I was away from the PC.

Given that I don’t use the Motif FrontPage and use a Static Grid Template Page as my Front Page, I shall take a look at the two themes you mentioned.

If those 2 themes do not display the white box, that will be perfect.
Let me take a look at Edin or Goran, bear with me.

    I prefer Motif.
