Trying to set up a 'new' home page but it is currently running as the general blog page!

Hello!! Please help!! I want to move all of my blog posts from the ‘home’ page to a blog page and have the home page as a place for recent additions and bits and pieces buit not sure how to do this … any ideas anyone?! Did i explain myself correctly? thanks, Rae

Hi there~!!
A simple solution could be to create a new page and make it your static home page. There is a great article about it here :: Static Home Page
Once the static home page is set, your blog posts will no longer be on your home page :)

Thanks for the help!!! After much pushing it buttons yesterday I think I succeeded in getting the pages sorted out!! Im so clueless I’m afraid!! Next question!! I’m having problems with setting up a page of excerpts!! Any ideas … I’m on afree plan so no plug ins and code is making my head spin!!! But I would love a home page with these on so navigation is easier!!!

Glad to hear the button pushing worked :)!! Don’t worry too much, you probably won’t be able to break anything that can’t be fixed haha.
The Twenty Twelve theme you are using currently has an Excerpts option built right in. The is an article about setting it up here: Excerpts
You can set them up right in your dashboard. Go to Blog Post and click on the entry you want to create the excerpt for. On the right side of the screen you will see Post Settings. From there click More Options and add the text you want to show as the excerpt in the little box. Voila!
Just to clarify, are you looking to display the excerpts on your static page? I can look into this as well if you are. I did notice you have your latest posts displayed at the bottom :)

Yes I would like to have the excerpts on the front page …. Photo plus a few words!!! Desperate attempts by me to make this blog more a) navigable and b) pretty!!! Although I totally believe in content over looks!!! Not sure I have that either but this is a means to the end of updating friends and family on my exploits!!!
I know I won’t crash the internet but my gosh … Push the wrong buttons and I lost all content for a couple of hours yesterday!!! It’s so stressful!!!😂😂

A great solution to get your blog post showing up in excerpts with images and links is with a shortcode. Don’t worry, I can walk you through it :)
I put together a Display Post shortcode for you based on what I believe you are looking for. This can be pasted at the bottom of your static page, which in your case is the HOME page. When you are in EDIT mode, you can paste the code below the rest of your text.
There are great support pages about it here Shortcodes, and here Display Posts ShortcodesThere are a few options for image size, I have set this at large, there is also thumbsize, small and medium. I set it at large for the most visual impact. Some things to note, if your image isn’t large enough, it won’t fill the space and the text may wrap around in an awkward manner. In order to change the way the image floats, you would need an upgraded account to adjust the CSS.

Adding on the code was so simple I have just done it … In the tent!!! The post excerpts show really nicely but no images … Maybe this is an issue related to looking from the Android phone?? You thoughts .. if you have time! .. would be most appreciated.Rae :)

Whoa, posting code in a tent? Impressive!!
It looks like your blog posts don’t have Feature Images. The shortcode pulls the image from your Featured Image.
A simple solution could be to add a feature image on your blog post. Super easy, just a few clicks :)
The instructions are here :: Featured ImagesI have been tinkering to see if there is a way to include your gallery images in the display post shortcode, haven’t found a solution yet. I will take another poke around tomorrow and see if I can sort it out :)

I am well aware that the truly impressive bit in all this is the creation of code …. but i couldn’t help but be a bit pleased with myself at being involved in the magical/alchemical process … and yes from a tent!!!
I will add in featured images if there is no other way (!) but i like the fact of having no image on the top of the blog page … so people can conjure images .. until they reach the gallery at the bottom!!! Its just a quirk of mine that i will get over I’m sure!!! It just feels too image heavy at the top otherwise!!! Now i think I’m just being weird!!!

My apologies for the time delay, I got caught up in more work then I had expected. I have been looking for a simple solution with the shortcode, but have not found anything yet. This does not mean it does not exist though :) Someone else may have an answer for you.
Perhaps reposting your question now that we have narrowed it down might be helpful? If you mention that you are looking for a shortcode to display your blog posts on your static page w images, someone may have a succinct answer for you.
In the meantime, I will continue my search, and will report back anything I find.
