Trying to set up the "Reservations" Widget in the Stay theme

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m setting up a site for my parents’ vacation rental, Salmon Run Vacations. I already started the site, but I found that the Reservations Widget only seems to work if you set up the site through the “Hotels Landing” page. If this is true, then I need to delete the site, the address, and all content and restart it through that process, but the disclaimer said I can never get the address back if I do that. I do want to eventually finish the site and then upgrade to a custom domain name, but in the meantime, is there a way to either make the Reservations widget work with what I have, or if I have to delete and restart, can I use the same site name and address?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I already started the site, but I found that the Reservations Widget only seems to work if you set up the site through the “Hotels Landing” page.

I’m a bit confused as you what you mean about this. Can you show me where the Hotels Landing page is?

It looks like you set the Reservations Widget to this page:

    Waterfront Location

However you can also add that to your Home page, Blog Page, and Header.

Let me know where you want it and I’d be happy to take a further look!

    Cheers!

Sure. The “Stay” Theme (http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/stay/) links to a “Hotels Landing Page: http://en.wordpress.com/hotels/. It seems that this is nothing more than trying to set up a new wordpress.com blog already geared towards hotel/rental owners and starting them off with the “Stay” theme. One of the perks of this theme is the reservations widget. I can add the widget, but I don’t seem to have any ability to direct where the form is sent once it is filled out. I hooked it up and plugged in my info as a test, and I have not received any emails with a form submission. It seems as though this has to be set up only by way of setting up your blog via the hotels landing site. All I really want to do is be able to set up this blog and choose where to direct the form submissions in the “Reservations” widget. I already manage a couple of other blogs, so my admin email needs to remain the same, but I will eventually want reservation inquiries to be sent to my parents’ email, not mine (though they don’t seem to be coming to my email anyway). Any thoughts?

So my thought was to delete the site and restart the blog under a completely new username, email address, etc. But as I was about to delete the site, I read that if you delete it, you lose the domain name as well. Is that true? If I started from scratch, could I still use the Salmon Run Vacations name and web address?

    Hi there,

Please do not delete the site and restart. Your site and reservation widget is working. I just created a Test Reservation using the Widget and you are able to see my test by going to Feedback > Feedback in your Dashboard. Here’s the direct link:

    https://salmonrunvacations.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=feedback

You will receive an email from the email that was used to set up the account.

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Okay, thank you! It did come through. I hadn’t thought to look there, and for some reason this time the email did go through. If I wanted to set it up so that the emails were directed to my parents’ email address, would I invite them as administrators, and we would both receive emails, or would I need to list my role as “editor,” and theirs as “administrator?” Thanks again.

    Hi there,

Currently the messages for the Reservation Widget only goes to the email of the site owner. You can change your account email address from here:
    https://wordpress.com/settings/account/

Please note that the change won’t take effect immediately as you will receive a validation email at the new email address. Make sure to click the link in the validation email to confirm the email address change.

If you run into any issue, you can check out this guide below:

    Change Your Email Address

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Okay one last question – sorry to bother you. If I change the site owner email address, does that change the email address for all the sites I manage? Or just the one?

In order to change the email for just the site, please go to Users > Personal Settings and update it there.

If you want, your parents can open up their own WordPress.com account (under their own email) and I can transfer the site into that account. Let me know if you want to do that!
