trying to start a blog
-
Hi, I already have a web domain, server, and all that. I just want to add a blog to my site. Just a link in my navigation is fine. However, I have been having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get a blog with a username that matches my domain name (to clarify: I’m thinking the url should be something like wordpress.com-or-org/mydomainname so it is simple to promote from outside my website, or if there is a way to nest the blog page within a webpage I own so it can be http://www.mydomainname.com/blog then that might solve this problem).
I’ve had my domain a long time and thought I might have created a blog for it already, so I tried logging in via wordpress.com. When I tried to log in with the same username as my domain, it says there is no one with the username so I figured it would be available, but then when I tried to create the account it says the username is not available. I tried setting it up on wordpress.org and it actually worked, but I don’t know if that’s what I need, it is trying to get me to buy a domain, and I don’t need that. I just want a simple blog i can log into to post – with the idea that I would have a ‘blog’ link on my website that would direct traffic to the blog on wordpress. I haven’t been able to find a place to get direct support, it seems all I can do is post to this forum and hope someone can help. How do I go about this? Please help! Thanks in advance

Hi there,
WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different things. WordPress.org is where the website creating software, WordPress is made and WordPress.com is one of the hosting providers that uses WordPress.
Can you please let me know what’s the username you’re trying to register to see if it has already been taken (this will be probably the case).
If the username is taken, you don’t have to worry about it, as you already have a username (westeastdesigns212525582) and you can use that to create a blog and link to your website.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Hi fstat, thanks for the response! The username I tried to register is “westeastdesigns” and since that didn’t work i thought perhaps i made “westeastdesign” a while back since I was unable to create “westeastdesigns” (thinking the “s” made the username one character too many for the system to accept) but when I tried to retrieve the password for that account I didn’t see an email to rest the password – so either I didn’t look in the correct email address’ inbox or that “westeastdesign” account isn’t mine, I’m not sure. But I would like “westeastdesigns” if possible, as my domain name is westeastdesigns.com
What would be the next steps for creating a blog that is easy to promote (www.wordpress.com/westeastdesigns or something along those lines)? I tried the following steps: Clicked on “My Site” in the upper left, clicked “create site” and from there it seems my only options are to allow the blog to be my actual website by moving it to my domain (am I misunderstanding that?), buy another domain name just for the blog (I’d rather not), or choose a ridiculously hard-to-remember url “westeastdesigns513167663.wordpress.com” for free. Would this be a more normal appearing URL if my username could have been something without a ton of random #s stuck behind it?
Thanks again for your help with this, very much appreciated :)

or choose a ridiculously hard-to-remember url “westeastdesigns513167663.wordpress.com” for free.
You could always settle for a free site using the words of your choice and a single digit after it rather than nine.

Some years back I set up a personal blog for free that’s myname.wordpress.com, so I’m just wondering how to set up westeastdesigns.wordpress.com, without random numbers involved :)

Hi there,
You are getting random numbers because westeastdesigns.wordpress.com must be already taken by someone else.
If you are okay with some other combination then below three website addresses/domains are available,
thewesteastdesign.wordpress.com
thewesteastdesigns.wordpress.com
eastwestdesigns.wordpress.com is available -
You can refer below link to change site address using current account,

http://westeastdesigns.wordpress.com is already registered. Based on the logo and content on it (which matches your http://www.westeastdesigns.com/ site), I would presume that this is a site you (or someone you know) set up. It looks like the owner is djwish — if that’s your account and you’ve forgotten that account’s login details, instructions for resetting the password or recovering the account are at https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/; if it’s not yours but you recognize who it is, then you can contact them to give you access or transfer the site to you.

Hi there,
I can confirm what @melancholia said above: http://westeastdesigns.wordpress.com belongs to the user, djwish, so the only way for you to gain access to that site is if you also own the djwish account, or the owner of that account either adds you as a user or transfers ownership of the site to you.
Regarding the username, westeastdesigns, that username is reserved for whoever owns the address, westeastdesigns.wordpress.com, so currently only djwish is able to use that username, and they can only create it by changing the username of their account.
This means if djwish transfers ownership of the site to your westeastdesigns212525582 account, you’ll be able to change the username of this account to westeastdesigns at that point.
Let us know if you have any more questions about this.
