Trying to transfer Go Daddy domain to WordPress. Why do I need to pay MORE money?
-
I bought claythescribe.com, or actually re-purchased it. I used to own it through WordPress. Apparently I made the mistake of trying to save money by purchasing it through GoDaddy as now trying to transfer it to WordPress, I’m actually being asked to pay even more money ($109) to transfer it to WordPress. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I can see it being $18 a year again, but $109 to transfer a domain I ALREADY paid for to your platform? If there is no work around on this, or you’re unwilling to let me do this for free, I will remove all my sites from WordPress (includin thehashbash.com), never do business with you again and recommend no one else does. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi @claytonmdavis
WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfers, and you would have to change your name servers to direct a domain to us.
I recommend transferring to a registrar that will allow you to do that, most do
There is a domain mapping upgrade available though.

WordPress.com does accept incoming domain transfers for supported TLDs, but to use it on a WordPress.com site you need at least a Personal plan. I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff attention and assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

@claytonmdavis – My bad, on my earlier reply.
We have been accepting incoming transfers for several months now. You can find the support document here:

Hi there,
As @justjennifer indicates above, it now requires a paid plan to add a domain to a WordPress.com site, and it is no longer possible to add only a domain.
If you try to add a domain the Premium Plan is added by default, but you can also go to My Site ->Plans to add the Personal Plan instead, and then add the domain afterwards.
Also note that as part of a domain transfer the domain will be renewed for an additional year, so you will not lose any of the time of the domain registration for which you’ve already paid GoDaddy.
