Trying to transfer my domain/website from Wix to WordPress
-
Wix doesn’t let me change the name servers and they won’t change the name servers of my site which is rather frustrating…
The only thing they’ll allow me to do is change ‘A’ and ‘CNAME’ and they’ll give me a ‘code’ to transfer my domain away from wix.
But there’s no place to put this code into wordpress and wordpress doesn’t have a team I can email the code to.Any suggestions?

Hello jeremymboyum,
WordPress.com does not currently accept incoming domain transfers.
You would have to change your name servers to direct a domain to WordPress.com.
I recommend transferring your domain to a registrar that will allow you to do that and then following this guide to get everything set up.

Hi @jeremymboyum and @luminusdadon,
I have exactly the same problem as @jeremymboyum and is really very frustating because I have already paid 13 dollars and I can´t transfer my domain from WIX to wordpress. I really would like any usefull suggestions to deal with that. Because, I believe that if we can not do nothing to transfer our domain, at least WordPress would have to refund our previous payment since no-one tell us that we couldn´t transfer a domain from Wix to wordpress.
Please, help me with that case because I really need to continue with that domain.
Thank you very much,Sebastian

Hi sbrudersohn,
I understand that this can be frustrating.
Like I mentioned before, we’re currently unable to accept incoming domain transfers.
What would work really well in this situation would be to transfer your domain from Wix to another Registrar that would let you control the domain in the way you want.
You could look at GoDaddy or Bluehost for example.
Since you’ve already purchased Domain Mapping, once you’re able to sort out the transfer, all you’d need to to is change the DNS setting so that your name servers are pointing to WordPress.com per this guide – https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/#update-the-dns-yourself
If you need more help, just let me know.
If you’d rather just cancel the domain mapping and get a refund, you can let me know as well and I’ll see to it.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Thank you very much @luminusdadon, you were very clear!
I have to discuss and analize with my team the possibility to change to GoDaddy or other provider.
In the meantime, I would really appreciate if you can do something for a refund. That is possible?
Thank you again!

I asked you for the refund because perhaps we prefer to buy directly a new domain in wordpress rather than tranfer our domain twice (first to godaddy and the to you).

Hi Sebastian,
If you want to be able to use the domain that you currently have (leconomist.org), you’ll still need the mapping and transferring the domain to another registrar is still the way to go.
It’s generally not advisable to cancel a domain registration unless you’re 100% certain you don’t need the domain name anymore, now or in the future, as there’s no guarantee that it’ll be available for registration elsewhere or that you’ll be able to get it at all.
If you want to use a completely different domain name though, you can definitely cancel the mapping from here https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades/. You should get a refund automatically since you’re still within the refund period.
Do let me know if you need anything else.

Thank you very much @luminusdadon.
For sure, we will change the domain and buy a new one in wordpress. So now, I will cancel the actual mapping in the site you mentioned.
Thanks!Sebastian
