Trying to upload a wmv
-
I have done this before and now I can’t. When I try to upload a WMV file I get “Error This video could not be processed because the codec is not supported.” I tried with the flash uploder and the browser. I even tried a wmv that is already working on my blog.
Am I missing something that has changed?

Sorry It is http://lianadevine.wordpress.com/ And I was just adding it to the profile so it is now a link on the photo

Thanks. I’m assuming you’ve got the space upgrade?
Where, exactly, are you adding the wmv? I can’t find it anywhere, so a direct link to the post and specifically the image you’re talking about would be helpful.

I’m not sure what space upgrade you are talking about. We have not posted in a few months and have noticed the site is different.
It has not been posted yet.We are making a new post and trying to upload a Photo story saved as a .wmv to it.
We have done this before without any problems
Now as soon as it has uploaded it says “Error This video could not be processed because the codec is not supported.”Hope this helps

The paid space upgrade is now the only way to host your sound files here at WordPress.com. You can use a free hosting service like box.net or studio.odeo.com to host them and just use them here if you want by linking to them or hotlinking, but you cannot upload them to your WP.com space without the upgrade:

Perhaps it’s a name issue. WP.com hates names with punctuation or underscores or anything of that kind. Try re-naming the file and then uploading it.
-
The file is already named Oaxaca.wmv …??? The previous one we posted last year with no problems (once we bought the upgrade) was Zacatecas.wmv and now it won’t read after it uploads. i.e same Error message.
-
Hmm, I’m stumped. There’s nothing weird about that name. Have you tried linking it to TEXT rather than an image?
-
Oh right, it won’t upload in the first place. I’m even more stumped; perhaps you’ll need to contact staff.
-
Since you haven’t been blogging since the big change, go to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and download and install the latest version of flash. The file/image uploader is now flash based and needs the latest version of flash.
Secondly, do you know if your space upgrade is still active? Did it come due while you were not blogging and hence it was not renewed?

We upgraded sometime last November to be able to post our Zacatecas.wmv. That upgrade should be good for a year, right? When we try to upload it tells us how much space we still have (8.something GB) and it also says the kind of files we can upload (wmv is on the list). It lets us upload, then we see the error message that says that we do not have the right codec.
Do I need to throw this over to support now?? -

OK. thank you guys we will leave this post open for now. If it gets solved through support I will post it here.
Bit if anybody has more input,it would be appreciated. Thanks

Here’s what WP Support had to say:
Hi there!
Sorry for the trouble you’re having, we’ve had a small percentage(about 2%) of certain video files, including some .wmvs, that can’t be transcoded with our video system. It is definitely something we’re working on, but for the meantime all we can do is ask you to export the videos to another format/codec then try uploading again.
Sorry again for the inconvenience.
Cheers,

I’m having the same trouble tonight. I have purchased the upgrade today. But each time I try & upload my wmv file, I get an error when it tries to do the conversion.
It’s been a month since this support thread started… should it be resolved by now? or should I wait a little longer before harassing hte staff?
;)
