trying to use a downloaded theme on new blog but it isn’t working
-
I downloaded the free version of WhiteHouse from the Theme Downloading page but I have no idea on how to take the material that I downloaded in the folder and apply it to the appearance of my blog. I have tried copying and pasting the different css files that are littered throughout the WhiteHouse folder but none of them make the blog appear how it does in the preview for the theme. Can anyone help me figure out where I’m going wrong in all of this?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Are we still talking about this blog? http://sometimesinthefall.wordpress.com/
If so, we are limited to using one of the 70+ themes in your Dashboard. http://support.wordpress.com/themes/ If you have a special request to add a theme to WordPress.COM, you can do so here. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/theme-recommendations?replies=370 Make sure you read the very first post by Tellyworth to understand what is required for a theme to be considered for WordPress.COM.

It’s a blog that hasn’t really taken flight yet, *http://mcnison.wordpress.com*, but I was led to believe that I would be able to download the themes from this page *http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/*.

Well, you can download as many themes as you like, but you cannot apply them to blogs on WordPress.COM. Those themes are only for independently-hosted blogs.
We’ve even had people who’ve paid a substantial amount for themes complaining they can’t use them here. But they can’t. Some sites are ripping people off deliberately.
ONLY by hand-editing the CSS in a knowledgeable fashion with the paid CSS upgrade can the appearance of existing themes be substantially altered. You cannot just paste in stuff from elsewhere. The CSS upgrade is only for adaptations of existing themes here, not for adding new themes.
