Trying to use/create a carousel blog

  • Unknown's avatar

I understand the Post Carousel will display, rotate 3/x number of posts.
    1. I can not figure out how to get that to display on a page without the underlining posts also displaying. It seems to me that I should be able to create a Post Block on a separate page from the blogs and have it display the X number of current blog posts, that I create. (I wish I could post a screen print of a similar content that I am trying to get to )
    2. I don’t want the author and update date to display.
    Thanks,
    Rick

  • Hello Rick,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

    1. Ok, so are you looking to show posts from a particular category or tag? A screenshot can be shared via a link https://snipboard.io/

    2. You should be able to configure this information as seen here:

    Thanks for your response.
I figured out the first issue. But now I want two Post Carousels on one page. One for Events and one for News. I know I can add a category and do that. However when I place two on a page the second one doesn’t have any scroll arrows. I think I uploaded a screen print here: https://snipboard.io/bhN2jc.jpg

I understand about the second issue. I didn’t explain that very well. When I click on the picture in the carousel the blog displays a lot of stuff that I don’t want the user to see. Can I hide it? Again I think I uploaded a screen print here: https://snipboard.io/K8Lkpd.jpg

And finally can I display more info on the carousel picture than just the category and title? For example: I would like the date, time, and location of the event so the user doesn’t need to click on it to find that info.
    Thanks much, Rick

  • Hmm, that second post carousel should have navigation. Would you mind giving us a link to the post or page you have it on, so we can dig a bit deeper?

For the stuff you want to hide, specifically, what do you want hidden? We have options for a few of the items listed there.

At this time, the overlay on the carousel photo is limited to just the title and category, but we’ll look into adding more.

The page with the two carousels:

Depending on what they want to do, I think hide most of this stuff. I have a suspision there is a setting somewhere that at least some of this can been hidden.

We’re trying to upgrade our church web site (this one is not it. I’m just doing some testing) and our old site had Upcoming Events and News item on the home page and it looked to me like the Post Carousel would be the way to go.

    Thanks Rick

  • Ah, the issue with the second cover block is that you have “Hide Controls” enabled in the blog settings: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/cover-block/#block-settings

As for each individual item in the screenshot to be hidden:

The sharing, Reblog, and Like buttons can be disabled in the post/page editor’s Jetpack settings: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/learn-the-interface/#jetpack

The post’s meta data (author, date, category), can be removed easily if you’re using a block-based theme https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/block-editor-styles/ (as the entire theme is fully customizable, including adding, removing, and moving content) or via CSS if you’re not: https://wordpress.com/support/css-support/

And the comments can be disabled in the post/page editor’s settings: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/learn-the-interface/#sidebar-menus

Please let us know if you have any more questions!

Duh. Don’t hide the controls if you want to see them.
Thanks for the other info. We will be using a different theme. Got it.
    Thanks much.
    Rick
