Trying to use domain from Go Daddy to set up NEW, SEPARATE blog on WordPress

Hi, I have been trying to set up a new blog with a domain purchased through Go Daddy. I have followed their instructions to change the domain mapping on their end to WordPress servers, but when I try to register my domain on WordPress, I am told the name is not available. I DO NOT want to map my new blog name to my existing blog. I want it to be an entirely separate blog. None of the instructions I’ve followed under your Domains pages have helped and I’m getting extremely frustrated as a couple of months have now passed since I purchased the domain name and I’ve been unable to set up my WordPress blog.

Hello, because the blog name you want is already taken, you’ll need to choose a different one for WordPress.com . Since you’ll be mapping the custom domain name to it, I don’t believe the blog name you use here is particularly important as you’ll be the only person who sees it. For example, you could set up dorothyodonnell2.wordpress.com, add content and map your new domain to that.

Thank you for your reply. I realize I probably wasn’t very clear in my previous post. My problem isn’t with my existing website (dorothyodonnell.com). I’m trying to set up a completely separate blog, with an entirely different name, that I purchased from Go Daddy. I followed the instructions on WordPress and Go Daddy to map the domain name to the WordPress DNS servers. But when I try to set up my new blog on WordPress, I keep getting a message that the name isn’t available because someone else owns it. Well, I know someone already owns it, because that someone is me! I have set up separate blogs in the past without this kind of problem, so I’m really not sure what the issue is now.

You need to be logged into the account that has the new blog and then follow these steps for the domain mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain
It sounds like you may have done that, so I’m sorry if I’m repeating what you already know. If following those steps doesn’t resolve the problem, please reply back with the name of your new WordPress.com blog and the new domain name you registered at GoDaddy. Then we can tag this post for a staff member to help out.
