Tumblr import

Hi, I tried to import my account, but if I check the page it seems to be stuck, and sometimes seems to “refresh” by it’s own. I reblogged some other posts on Tumblr in the last 24 hours, and WordPress didn’t seem to count them in the posts to import. My blog has nsfw content (nudity and explicit content, even if mostly drawings, and probably some gore too, always drawn), but they’re tagged as such. I don’t know if there’s a way to block tag here… At the moment I have almost 27’000 posts reblogged. What should I do? 24 hours have passed, but I already noticed something was weird as soon as I saw the page “auto-refreshing” – also that 5 seconds survey? Tried to take it, and while doing it, the page refreshed itself lol
Right now WordPress is linked to my Tumblr, but the import page is closed.

    Hi kuudeji,

We’re currently experiencing a huge influx of Tumblr imports, so they’re taking longer than usual to complete. It appears that the import for your site is still queued in our system, so it will hopefully complete soon.

If it hasn’t finished in 24 hours, please let us know and we can reset the importer so you can try again.

Does it work even if I close my browser?
Also, will it import new posts automatically, or is there a way to make it so?

  • It will keep working to import what’s there now. It won’t auto-import new posts created after the transfer, though.

Thanks! Is there a way to import posts anyway, without having to redo it again for the whole blog?

  • If you later run a second import to bring over new content it will skip anything that has imported already, but you’ll only be able to do that once the current import has completed.

My blog has nsfw content (nudity and explicit content, even if mostly drawings, and probably some gore too, always drawn),

Please see our policy regarding mature content here:

    Mature Content

    User Guidelines

Sexually explicit content is not allowed on WordPress.com, including illustrations, so depending on the exact type of content you’re speaking of you might want to look into the self-hosted option of WordPress at a different hosting provider – the open source WordPress software is free for anyone to use and has no such restrictions, but individual hosting providers might have their own policies as to what they allow.

Hi, I’m doing so investigating for a friend who used to host a mature-centered blog.

I’m aware that you people have your own policies, but you said something about a self-hosted option. How is that different from a standard WordPress?

  • Actually a self-hosted site is “standard WordPress” :)

The WordPress software is created by the community on WordPress.org and is free for anyone to download and use, and even modify to fit their needs. To use that software you need your own server, or a hosting account with a host like Bluehost where you can install that software to their servers.

If you host your own server you’re in absolute control, except for any policies your ISP might have regarding the type of traffic they allow. If you’re with a hosting provider, how much control (over the server and software) and content-freedom you have will depend on that host’s setup and policies. There are many hosting providers out there with plans at many price-points, so I suggest you do some research, look at available reviews, etc, before you commit.

There exists a Tumblr importer plugin for that version of WordPress that works similar to the one on WordPress.com, though it won’t have similar delays as we’re seeing here as that importer would only be processing your one import.

On WordPress.com we use a modified version of the WordPress software which we host in a shared environment where we control the software, so you can focus on your content without having to worry about stuff like updates or server maintenance, etc.

You can find out more about self-hosted WordPress here:

Mmmh I guess it will import everything since I already started to import, even the mature content… Will it import tags too? I can delete it manually, if I can track the tags
