Tumblr import "Clear account info" missing

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

if I remember it correctly in the past there was a button “Clear account info” directly under the blogs that could be imported from Tumblr.

After clicking it I was able to start another import to only fetch the articles that were added after the last successful import. That button is not there anymore, I only have the option to disconnect from Tumblr. After connecting again the option is still missing.

The (previous) import shows “successful” in the status screen.

    Any idea?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hey there –

I’ve reset the importing tool. Please give it another try. Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thank you very much!

It worked (with some minor glitches), but I should be able to fix them myself.

Still one more question :) The button I remember from earlier to clear the account information and re-import from Tumbler to add the changes since the last sync is still missing.

    Is that button gone?

    Is that expected behavior?

Or am I just remebering it wrong?

  • @worldofhumpe are you referring to the option to clear the connection from Tumblr, perhaps?

Only staff can actually clear imports.

  • Unknown's avatar

    @supernovia No, I don’t think I’m referring to that.

I try to describe it more clearly. In the past I did an import from Tumblr, let’s say in November 2017. That worked, was completed and everything from Tumblr was in WordPress.

After that, in April/May 2018, I was able to press a button in the same import interface – I think it was labeled “Clear account info” – and the import was started again, but this time only the posts that were added in Tumblr since November 2017 were imported to WordPress. It was kind of a “new posts only” import.

That button to start the import process again and only import the new posts from Tumblr is not there anymore.

  • It’s possible something might have gotten stuck on your last import, so I’ve tried forcing a reset on our end. Please check if it works now.

If, after completing the new import, you again don’t see the option to start a new import, please let me know, as that might indicate something broken.

    Thank you very much, @kokkieh

I just tested it, still the same behavior. The import completes successfully, but the button is missing and I don’t see the option to start a new import.

I’m happy to start from scratch to see if that makes a difference. I guess in that case you would have to reset the blog to a clean state and that can only be done by you, or? If that’s an option I’ll do it.

  • Hi there,

Can you give it another go? I just made an adjustment on our end. The button you’re describing doesn’t exist anymore and the importer will automatically skip previously imported content.

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay, understood. So what is the expected behavior after running an import?

Should I be able to run another/second/third/etc.? From your post I would assume “yes”, but I can’t.

I just ran another import, it finished successfully, but again I’m not able to start a new one.

  • Unknown's avatar

As mentioned I can also start from scratch if that rules out any misconfiguration.

But I guess then you have to reset the blog on your end since I can’t bring it in a clean state from the user side as far as I know.

  • You wouldn’t be able to cancel an old import but you should be able to add another import once the one running is totally finished.

Right now I can see the status is clear (ready for another import) without us having to clear it, so if it initially wouldn’t let you start a new import, it’s possible it just hadn’t wrapped up the first one.

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m not able to add another import!

The import of the blog from Tumblr has finished, the status column has a checkmark in it, it finished 15 hours ago, yet I’m not able to start another import for that blog again.

I would provide screenshots if I could, but it looks like that’s not possible in the forum.

  • To start a new import we need to manually reset the importer for you. I have done so and you can run a new import now.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hm…is there a special reason why the behavior has changed, i.e. a new import is only possible after you did a reset on your side in contrast to before where I was able to do that myself?

Having to request a reset (Via the forum? Or what’s the recommended way?) is not exactly what I would call “convenient”.

An additional downside might be that it looks like after all the tests the import process got broken, some media is in the library but not in the related post. Looks like I have to fix that manually.

    That’s not exactly how I hope it’ll play out…

  • @worldofhumpe clarifying — it should only need a manual reset if it gets hung up. And normally it doesn’t.

Oddly, there was nothing to clear on your site when I checked it earlier. If there is something to clear, and it hasn’t been too long since it hung up, sometimes we can see what’s wrong. So if you get stuck again please let us know right away so we can take a look prior to clearing it.

I really appreciate the time and effort your putting into that problem…but I feel we’re going in circles here.

From the beginning that is exactly my problem:

I’m NOT able to start another import after the previous import has finished!

The only way is that you reset the import on your end.

And the import definitely wasn’t stuck. It went through flawlessly. It shows completed with a green checkmark next to the blog. Everything looks fine, just the option to start another import is missing.

If there’s no other way to get this fixed, could you please reset the blog to it’s default state, clean the database, etc., whatever is needed and I’ll start from scratch.

That seems to be the most feasible solution if nothing else helps.

Or do you have any other idea?

    Hi worldofhumpe,

I thought of a couple of things that may be good to try:

    1. Clear your browser cache, refresh the page and try starting another import — I’m suggesting this because I checked your account and I’m not seeing anything preventing an import from starting in your view.
    2. Try using completely different browser.

I’ve also cleared your site cache from my end to see whether that helps.

Let me know how you get on.

    Hi gemmacevans,

I was away last week so I wasn’t able to test earlier, but I was surprised when I did the test right now. After doing another import a button “Import new posts from this blog” appeared. That’s the option I was looking for and it looks like it’s working now.

Some post are still broken and the media is missing – I assume that happen due to all the testing – but at least the option is back.

I guess clearing the cache on your side did the trick since I didn’t clear the browser cache and I’ve already tried it with multiple browsers before.

    Thank you very much!

  • That’s the option I was looking for and it looks like it’s working now.

There were a couple other reports of this happening, yes, so our developers had a look and were able to fix the underlying cause.

Some post are still broken and the media is missing

You can try to delete those posts – make sure to delete them from the Trash folder as well – and then run a new import. On the re-import their attached media files will hopefully import this time, though I can’t guarantee it will work.
