Tumblr import faulty?

    Hi,

I have a tumblr blog that I want to import into WordPress. I had previously imported the whole blog into WordPress, but recently deleted all the posts in order to do a fresh import (because the posts on tumblr had been edited and I wanted the WordPress blog to reflect the changes.) I started the fresh import on 12/12. Now, it shows that all 7500+ posts have been imported in the Import section (+300 in drafts), but there are only about 1000 posts published (and 25 posts in the drafts), with about 7000 in the trash (from when I deleted.) Is there a way to get all the posts imported or will I have to restore the deleted posts (with the unedited information)?

Also, there used to be a “Clear account information” button that I understand would allow the import of only the new, yet-to-be-imported posts from the tumblr periodically (than having to import everything all over again), which is now missing from the Import page. Has that functionality been removed?

    Hi tellywoodtrash,

It looks like the import on your site has completed – some content has been imported, and no import is currently running.

If you’re still missing posts, please restart the import now – posts already on your WordPress.com site will be skipped by the importer. It might take a while to complete, though, as we’re still seeing a lot of new Tumblr imports being created so there’s still a backlog. At this point I’m not able to give an estimate on how long it might take to catch up with the backlog, though.

There is only a Disconnect from Tumblr button on the importer. We don’t offer the option to run periodic imports on WordPress.com, they need to be started manually each time. As I mentioned above, only missing content will be imported so you won’t have to import all of the content again.

Do the posts in my Trash count as “already on my WordPress”? In that case, should I empty them permanently from Trash and then restart the import?

Hi, could you please address the above question? Also, how do I restart an import? (It is showing as completed.) Do I have to disconnect from tumblr and reconnect?

    Hi tellywoodtrash,

I would empty the trash before running another import to give yourself a fresh start and just in case those posts are skipped the second time around — trashed posts would still be in our database as far as I know.

Do I have to disconnect from tumblr and reconnect?

You should see the option to “Connect to Tumblr to begin” and then be able to select your Tumblr blog on the importer.
