Tumblr import has stopped
-
About 10% of the process happened, but now the import has frozen for two full days. This doesn’t seem normal – has the importer malfunctioned for my tumblr?

Hi there!
If you’re missing posts, please restart the import now. Any post that already on your WordPress.com site will be skipped by the importer. Please note that it can take a while to complete as we’re still seeing a lot of new Tumblr imports being created so there’s still a backlog of those imports.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for this reply. I did what you suggested but still nothing. It is frozen around 3000 posts in to my blog.
3174 / 40490 posts. It has been frozen here for some days.

Hi ayearoferewhon,
It appears the Tumblr import on your site has now failed, so I’ve reset the importer so you can try again.
If it seems to take long, please be patient and don’t try cancelling the process yourself – we’re still experiencing a high volume of imports from Tumblr at the moment causing a backlog of pending imports in our system. The imports are being run in the order they are submitted, but it could be a few days before your new import is processed.
If some posts have already imported they will be skipped by the importer during your next attempt, so they should not be duplicated.

Hello – the 2nd attempt at the import grabbed many more of the Tumblr blog’s posts, but now has frozen again. Can it be restarted again? Or is there some other problem? Worried about archiving the older posts before the Tumblr changes of Dec. 17 at this point.

Hello. My tumblr import is still frozen at about 25% of the posts. It has been days. Can someone reset it and try again? Or is there another fix?
Today is the last day for Tumblr blogs to be archived elsewhere so I feel quite anxious about the archive not being destroyed for the future.

Hi ayearoferewhon,
The import failed again but it looks like content has been imported. Is anything missing? If it is, are there any draft or private posts on your Tumblr blog or are they all published and visible to the public?
I’ve reset the importer in case you want to try again and be sure to leave your Tumblr account connected as this could prevent the import from starting.

Thank you for responding on this, and for resetting the import again.
To recap: After waiting a long time in the queue, the import began and froze around 3000 tumblr posts into the process. My blog is 5 years old, so there are many more posts. Then you reset it. It started after another wait again, and got to around 8000 posts this time. That is about 25% of the whole. Then it froze again, since 12/14. There are no hidden or private posts – until today perhaps. I was trying to archive this blog before the 12/17 changes to the Tumblr platform, where now I believe some important posts on my blog will be disappeared.

That is about 25% of the whole.
I can see you’ve got an active import queued right now, so let’s leave that in place to run.
Noting as well, for having only imported 25% of your site, you’re already using 83% of your space. If you run out of room when the import runs again, you’ll need to run it again after that, so I’d recommend upgrading so you’ll have enough space:

I received a separate email that I have indeed reached a space limit. I was not aware of this when I started the transition from Tumblr to WordPress.
I was offered an upgrade coupon along with an upgrade of 10GB of space. But the link takes me instead of “paid upgrades” to the wordpress page for changing from a free plan to a paid plan. The upgrade space coupon does not function there.
I am asking for information on how to make the best choice here. I do not need a business type account, the simplest will work for me. My original Tumblr blog is now 25% imported – 10K posts out of a total of 40K. What level of space do you predict I will need and what level of cost am I facing for the blog to be archived and kept here instead?
Is there a way to just buy space as opposed to changing to yearly plans? What is the 10GB upgrade code that I was offered?
Thank you for your help figuring this out, after which I will need to restart the import I guess. Trying to figure all of this out, it is not easy.

Hi there,
I received a separate email that I have indeed reached a space limit. I was not aware of this when I started the transition from Tumblr to WordPress.
We have limits on the space available for media files on different plans, yes. There is no limit to the number of posts and amount of text content you can add to a site, but there are limits to the number of media files (images, audio, video) you can upload to a site’s media library.
I was offered an upgrade coupon along with an upgrade of 10GB of space. But the link takes me instead of “paid upgrades” to the wordpress page for changing from a free plan to a paid plan. The upgrade space coupon does not function there.
Can you please let me know the exact subject line of the email you received, and the coupon code included in it?
What level of space do you predict I will need and what level of cost am I facing for the blog to be archived and kept here instead?
It is impossible to predict that, as we have no way of knowing the total file size of all the media files you have on your Tumblr site.
Our free plan comes for 3GB free storage. The Personal plan increases that to 6GB, Premium to 13GB, or unlimited on our Business Plan.
Is there a way to just buy space as opposed to changing to yearly plans? What is the 10GB upgrade code that I was offered?
We have not sold stand-alone space upgrades on WordPress.com for almost four years now. If you received a coupon specifically for a stand-alone space upgrade that was an error. That particular upgrade no longer exists so I can’t even add it for you manually. The only way to increase storage space on a WordPress.com site is by upgrading to a paid plan.

Hi – regarding your question. The email subject line read “Upload space limit reached.” And the email reads:
“Howdy,
You have used up all of your available upload space. This means we can not import any more attachments.
You can purchase a space upgrade here: http://ayearoferewhon.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php
If you purchase a space upgrade you can use this Coupon Code: [redacted] for a 10% discount on the 10GB.”

I see my reply to your query was redacted but no response. I’m waiting on your response before taking any action visavis signing up for a paid version of the platform. If 3GB was enough to transfer 10K+ of my posts, and I have 40K – to archive the blog here I would need around 12GB it seems. Unless I go about deleting repeated or non-essential posts. So please advise. The 10GB offer I received yesterday seems like what I do need.

Thanks for that info. I’m not sure why my colleague who redacted the code did not reply to you as well.
I’m sending you an email to continue helping with this. Please let me know if you don’t receive that.
