Tumblr Import Issues

Okay, so I imported my tumblr blog into my wordpress blog. All went well with the import except nothing has titles or categories. I try to use the mass editor in the dashboard and it “acts” like it’s doing something but it leaves both Uncategorized and my new category as the category the items are sorted into.

Also, one strange thing was as soon as imported my blog…i had an instant comment/like from a random person on wordpress.com…how the heck does that even happen? (no this is not the default wordpess comment that always appears on new blogs).

So question is..how do I mass edit the categories?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Ugh, hold on, it’s showing a dif domain. It’s http://fabricatedsoul.wordpress.com not the apocalyptic one.

You need to set a default Category in order to be able to get rid of Uncategorized. Do that under Settings. You can also mass-edit categories under your Dashboard->Categories, see the left-hand sidebar.

If you got an instant comment, you hit the Global Tag Pages right away, most likely. I’ve seen it happen with several of my students, and it’s pretty cool. It convinced one of them that his poetry was good enough people everywhere wanted to see it, and now he’s got a full scholarship to university because of the poetry he put on the blog.

Now, as to your second post: which is the active blog? Did you delete anything during the sign-up process?

Well both are active, just the apocalypticthoughts is chilling on .org so that’s not handled here. :) (plus i’m sure there would have been a plugin for that one).

    so primary blog – apocalyptic
Blog here on wordpress is the fabricatedsoul.wordpress.com

I’m guessing my tumblr spam popped in with a million tags..me thinks? Tho what’s really odd was the comment was on a post that didn’t have tags..odd..

To original question…i had to do some bull-honky to get it somewhat straightened out. I basically (in case someone else runs into this) couldn’t “delete” that category off everything through the mass editor as it’s a default category. So what I did was make a new category, turn it into the default category and then erased the “uncategorized” category.

I learned you can mass ADD a category, but you can’t mass delete a category from a group of posts. Maybe they’ll put that in the next wordpress upgrade. bleh

Now..to somehow go through 100 posts and give them titles for em all and put them in correct categories, fix broken links/embeds. This will be a fun few days ahead of me. :D

oh, to answer the other ?..I realized i didn’t put the link to my blog in my post and the one that’s linked from my name is the self-hosted one. That’s all that was.

Thank you for your help however.

You’re welcome. I’m sorry I wasn’t more clear. You probably want to report the missing headlines to staff via the Help button on your dashboard; if it happened to you, it’ll happen to a LOT of other people unless they fix it.
