Tumblr Import – Multiple Accounts

  • Unknown's avatar

Due to the Great Tumblr Migration, I am wanting to eventually import all my three tumblr blogs, which are spread over two accounts (so they are on separate emails with separate log-ins).

I have managed to import a tumblr side blog from my main tumblr account. Now I am hoping to switch to importing my blog from my other account.

I have, multiple times, disconnected the import tool from tumblr, and tried to connect it with my other account. It simply reconnects with my main account, despite having logged into my other account.

I have tried disconnecting, ensuring tumblr is logged off, deleting all my cookies, then connecting the tumblr import tool to my other account, and it still seems to be unable to connect to a different tumblr account.

I have tried in both Chrome and Opera. The sideblog I have imported is shared by both tumblr accounts.

Is it at all possible to connect to a different tumblr account? One would think it would be, or that WordPress would tell me it can’t if that’s the case.

Thanks in advance for any help, as I would really like this all backed up without making a separate wordpress account :)

((It has also struck me a little as a potential privacy/security issue that it is, in fact, connecting me to an account that is different to the one I just logged in to.))

((If anyone’s curious re delay times, the sideblog I imported with 114 posts took about 3 days))

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi @certifiedpersontumblrbackup, clarifying: are you importing these two accounts into one WordPress.com account, or using two separate accounts here too?

If you’re importing into one account here:

I have tried disconnecting, ensuring tumblr is logged off, deleting all my cookies, then connecting the tumblr import tool to my other account, and it still seems to be unable to connect to a different tumblr account.

That seems odd. I’d recommend trying from an incognito window to see if that helps at all. You can always close the window once the import is started.

Can you also let us know what’s happening exactly there, where it’s unable to connect to a different account? Do you get an error?

Hi, sorry it took so long to get back to you, I’ve been suuper busy. I’m using just ONE wordpress account, and trying to import from TWO tumblr accounts (a total of three blogs.) I have now attempted incognito and it did not work, same as before.

There is no error message or anything, it simply seems that my wordpress account, now that it has connected to that one tumblr account, can only be connected to that one tumblr account and no other. So all it does when I try to connect it to my old tumblr is that it shows up connected to the tumblr I have already imported from. (and no, there is no import currently running or queued, so that won’t be affecting it, though I intend to start one tonight.)

Does that make sense? I understand what’s happening perfectly, but it’s a bit difficult for me to put into words in a way that makes sense to other people, so please do let me know if you need something else clarified :)

I do assume it’s just a mistake in the coding, as I suppose it’s a bit difficult to expect that someone will try to do what I am now trying to do, it’s not really something one would think to check on a website with so many other, more important, more frequently-used features.

So I just went to import the second blog from my main account and when I clicked “import” on a specific blog it reloaded and showed my old account’s blog?

So, that’s queued for import now. Will be interesting to see what happens when I attempt my last blog of my main account.

  • It makes sense.

If you disconnect from the one account (once the import is finished) and _then_ try from an incognito window (in lieu of clearing cookies) does it help?
