Tumblr Import Not Workign – Custom Domain Disabled

Hello all, I’m trying to backup my Tumblr site to WordPress.com, but it’s not letting me initiate the import. Help! :)

In the WordPress.com admin Tumblr importer, under action/status there should be a button labeled ‘Import this blog’, instead I have a red X with ‘Custom domain’ next to it (no button) and below it displays the following notification:

‘As one or more of your Tumblr blogs has a Custom Domain mapped to it. If you would like to import one of these sites you will need to temporarily remove the custom domain mapping and clear the account information from the importer to import. Once the import is completed you can re-enable the custom domain for your site. ‘

I use a custom domain on the tumblr, but have disabled it in the Tumblr backend. (The custom domain now redirects to tumblr login page and then after a moment to the Trending page: https://www.tumblr.com/explore/trending)

    I have tried:
    1. Disconnecting the Importer from Tumblr and re-connecting.
    2. Logging out of both accounts at the same time, and logging back in.
    3. Clearing cache on the browser (FF 80.0.1, macOS 10.14.6) and repeating steps 1 & 2

It’s been a few hours now since disabling the custom domain.

    Any help is much appreciated!!

Could someone from WordPress help, please?

  • Hi there,

If you’re getting the custom domain error even after switching off the domain on Tumblr’s end, disconnect in the importer, go to the Apps section in Tumblr settings and remove WordPress there: https://www.tumblr.com/settings/apps

    Then restart the import.

Let me know if it still won’t work.
