Tumblr import stuck, won’t restart + error message
-
Hello,
Apologies for the duplicate post — I just now saw the initial posting asking that each new query begin a new post (rather than replying to an existing post).
I’ve run into the same issue as many others. I authorized Tumblr to read/write access on my WordPress.com site (http://wrestlingsubmission.wordpress.com) and let the Tumblr importer run overnight, probably for at least 10 hours, but it still read that 0 posts/drafts had been imported after all that time. Thinking that it just got stuck and I needed to reset it, I pressed ‘clear account information’ and disconnected the Tumblr from my WordPress site.
Then, when I went back to re-authorize access, reconnect and begin the import process again, I now get an error message ‘You can only have one running import at a time. Please wait for the current one to complete. If you need any further assistance please contact support.’
But it doesn’t even look like any import process is underway (because it doesn’t say ‘in progress’ anymore), and it won’t let me start the import process again now.
Could you please help me reset whatever is blocking this so that the import process (for the above-linked WordPress.com site) can begin again?
Thank you for your help!

Hi, I’ve checked again and it’s still queued. It didn’t actually disconnect earlier. And, it’s taking a long time because it hasn’t started yet — there are quite a few imports happening right now, and we’re attempting to process them in the order they came in.
Can you please update us in 24 hours if it has not completed by then? We can check the status again at that point.

I’m having the exact same issue, but with my blog its thecoffeeaddictedshortcake.music.blog at wordpress.com
My tumblr has a lot of posts over the years I’ve used it, but its still at 0% import, I cant restart the import, and it says I already have one that’s going on even though I tried to clear the info and stuff to restart it. I even disconnected, and reconnected my tumblr, and it still says I have an import happening even though it doesnt say ‘in progress’ anymore. I have yet to get an email as well if its been finished or not.
-
OK thanks… if it never disconnected from the first time, do you mean 24 hours from when I first started the import (which was last night)?
-
In the last 24 hours, but not exactly at the mark, but the page kept resetting itself over and over during the import, so I tried to clear the site information to restart it. I didnt have any ad-blockers on or anything either D:

@wrestlingsubmission, from when you started it, yes, but it looks like it might be taking longer – our importer is really not designed to handle this level of imports at once so it’s taking a while to catch up. But we’re monitoring the situation on our end to make sure the imports keep going through.
-
Your import is still queued as well, so please be patient. If there’s still no progress by tomorrow, please start your own thread and we can take a look there.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it has now been about 36 hours since I first started the import process, and 24 hours since my attempted “reset” (which appears to have not actually been reset, since you said I’m still in the queue). But still getting that same error message about only having “one import running at a time.”
I’ll check in again later today. Thanks.

May I also ask a separate follow-up question? I’m not certain as to the exact quantity of data that would be imported to WP.com, but what happens if the quantity exceeds whatever storage limit is in place for a WP.com site? Would it just stop importing halfway through, or does something else happen?
On Tumblr, image file size limits isn’t an issue, but I am worried it might be if images are stored directly on WP.com servers and then mark against the WP.com blog’s file size limit.

wrestlingsubmission – What is the file size of your import?
See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/
-
I don’t know the file size — the Tumblr import tool tells you the number of posts and drafts that are being imported, but doesn’t seem to tell you the total file size. That link you sent didn’t seem to talk about file size. Is there a way to tell this?
Also, it looks like my import is still queued? Will check back again tonight…

There is no limit to the number of posts you can have on WordPress.com, so all your posts should import. We do have a cap on how much media you can store, though – 3GB on the free plan – so once you reach that point we won’t be able to transfer any more of your media files. But that should not prevent the posts themselves from still importing.
Your import still shows as queued. Please make sure your Tumblr account is still connected in the importer, but otherwise all we can do for now is wait.
-
Thank you. When I sign into Tumblr, it still lists WordPress as an “app connected,” so it does still seem to be connected.
Is there any estimate on how many people are in the queue, an average length of time each person takes, etc.? Would be great to get some sort of estimate on when it will be complete.
Thanks again.

Please also check that it shows that in the importer itself at https://wrestlingsubmission.wordpress.com/wp-admin/admin.php?import=tumblr – it should show your Tumblr sites listed there.

Unfortunately not. All I can tell you for sure is that we’re processing several thousand posts a minute, but we have no way to tell where a particular import is in the queue or how long it might still take to get to it.
-
Thanks, it does show the Tumblr site, and the number of posts, drafts and pages to be imported. It still has the “import blog” button that can be pressed, making it seem as though it’s not being imported, and then clicking that button still gives the error message: “You can only have one running import at a time. Please wait for the current one to complete.”
Does that mean it’s still connected?
Thanks again

I have the same problem – been stuck for 5 days or so at 0/2401 posts :(
Any chance of the issue being fixed soon? -
It looks like the import on your site has completed – some content has been imported, and no import is currently running.
If you’re still missing posts, please restart the import now – posts already on your WordPress.com site will be skipped by the importer. It might take a while to complete, though, as we’re still seeing a lot of new Tumblr imports being created so there’s still a backlog. At this point I’m not able to give an estimate on how long it might take to catch up with the backlog, though.
Please create your own thread at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/?new=1 and include a link to your site, and we can help you there. Make sure to add the tags
modlookandtumblr importto your thread so we don’t miss it. -
I’ve been reading online about how to import from Tumblr and it seems like most websites have more of a complicated process than what is being shown to me. All I had to do was select “import from tumblr” and then the process began (though it is still at 0, many hours later.) Did the process used to be more complicated? You don’t have to create an application on Tumblr anymore? I’m just wondering why I was never given further instructions on WordPress. It looks like it’s importing but I’m not sure if I need to take further steps.

Hi mahsaz3527,
Please start a new thread for your question and tag it with modlook so we can check your import.
Thanks!
